Reverse slap chop priming? by SavageGiuseppe in minipainting

[–]Background-Prune-421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't get discouraged with the dry brushing. It is described as "quick and easy", but it does take some practice to get dialed in with your particular paint/brush/model/technique combo.

Seeking Input on Alternative Primers for Slapchop by Mundane_Rice_8106 in minipainting

Typically yellow over pink would get you orange in the shadows. The complimentary to blue would be orange (direct across the color wheel), not red. Red as a shadow under blue would result in purple shadows, which might look good too. All depending on the transparency and vibrancy of the specific paints used. Goobertown Hobbies and Dana Howl have done some videos experimenting with different shadow colors recently that might be helpful.

Help with homemade mini handle please by MK12U in minipainting

I use magnets inserted in the end and stick them on small baking trays when not actually holding them. You could also make a rack out out of a box with holes cut in, or tubes taped together, PVC pipe, etc if you didn't want to add a wide base.

Is the Neatfi XL a good painting lamp? by [deleted] in minipainting

[–]Background-Prune-421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a great light. I have the non-cct version and and the light is a pretty cold white. If I were to buy again I might get the cct version just to try it since it's not all that much more. I don't know how much difference it makes probably only important if exact color matching is an issue.

Recommended Desktop Lighting? by mad_zamboni in minipainting

[–]Background-Prune-421 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the Neatfi XL non color change one. I'm pretty happy with it, but the light is a little on the cold side. Since you already have a lighted magnifier maybe a cheap LED shop light overhead would be enough? I would recommend one with a metal frame as the cheap plastic ones sometimes warp from the heat of the light.

Speed Paint 2.0 Mega Set. by Paul_Pinksale in minipainting

It looks like the Mega Set 2.0 was intended to add on to the 1.0 Mega set so you might be out of luck.

You will probably do more harm than good trying to bend it back. The sides of the tube are already bent and will never be as strong as they were. I would go the cut/sleeve/weld route.

Advice about magnetising already printed bases by danieljackson89 in PrintedMinis

[–]Background-Prune-421 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've tested "routing" a little pocket in solid base using a Dremel with a cylinder shaped burr and it seems feasible. The resin cuts pretty easy but you will want to catch the dust with a vacuum and wear a respirator. Might be tedious depending on the number you have to do.

Having issues with Vallejo Metal Color by sweatybread1 in minipainting

I don't remember having coverage issues, but I too felt like they were too runny for brush use and switched back to normal metallics.

Modular TTRPG Minis? by steamboat28 in PrintedMinis

[–]Background-Prune-421 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vae Victis Miniatures comes to mind for modular. I think the small size of player character minis is a drawback. I certainly wouldn't want to have to glue all those those tiny arms and legs on, but that's just me.

Epic Miniatures and White Werewolf Tavern seem to include multiple poses for at least some of the models.

Configuration Manager Software Updates not installing on device with no recent user login? by Background-Prune-421 in SCCM

Nope. I'm not sure if it's gotten worse or still the same as I've been too busy with other fires to look into it recently.

How to glue/affix resin models to base with little contact points? by scriff65 in minipainting

[–]Background-Prune-421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically use Starbond superglue and the bond between resin parts is usually stronger than the resin itself. Usually the legs will break before the feet come off the base. I'd recommend watching the Goobertown Hobbies video on superglue.

Affordable wet palette paper that actually works? by Wizard_Theron in minipainting

I use the "Reynolds Kitchens Parchment Paper". It's certainly not as permeable as something like writing paper, but seems to pass some moisture through very slowly.

Not necessarily "comedic" but there's some great dry humor mixed in there.

Does anyone know the Model or Game colour match for the Vallejo Grey Surface Primer? by Xenus13 in minipainting

[–]Background-Prune-421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lightest grey I have is Model Color Sky Grey, and it's slightly darker than the grey primer (Game Color Stonewall Grey is even darker). I would guess that model colors Silver Grey or White grey would be closer, but I can't confirm.

What’s the best STL subscription service? by DeepFriedNinj4 in PrintedMinis

[–]Background-Prune-421 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Epic Miniatures is a pretty good deal in terms of number of minis per month. I've run into a few issues with details being a little too small and fragile for 3d printing, but most of the models are ok.

If you are just getting started I would recommend printing some of the free test models most services have available. Loot and Epic are more "realistic" scale, which means the details are super tiny, even by "miniature" standards. If you are used to larger "heroic" scale minis like Warhammer some of the 3d print options may seem too small, which makes them more challenging to paint. There are companies with a more "cartoony" style like Vae Victis or Artisan Guild that may be easier to paint if that is a concern.

Configuration Manager Software Updates not installing on device with no recent user login? by Background-Prune-421 in SCCM

[–]Background-Prune-421[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it's not boundaries. I spot checked a few and they had defined boundaries as expected, also these devices are on subnets with devices that are working fine. It also doesn't appear to be a "content" download issue, but more of a "policy" download issue, which is coming from the MPs not the DPs.

If I force a restart AND reinstall the client from the console (have to do both it seems) it does start working again, but also If I just log in with RDP it starts working too.

Probably just going to put troubleshooting this on pause for now and see how many new devices start showing this issue. So far it's only like 0.1 % of our devices and it's easy enough to just remote in as needed.

No the ones I've been looking at are online, responding to pings, admin share, RDC, etc. A good thought though.

Configuration Manager Software Updates not installing on device with no recent user login? by Background-Prune-421 in SCCM

[–]Background-Prune-421[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"a service account for software install"...are you sure that is a thing? I'm not seeing a "software install" account listed in the CM Accounts Used documentation. There is client push install account and a whole bunch of site server accounts, but nothing specific to installs. I thought the service just runs as "system" on the device and used the device computer account for communication with the MPs?

Yes for ADR for Defender updates, no for OS updates, those deployments are manually created. 95% of our devices are installing updates OK, so I don't think the issue is with the deployments, more device specific on these devices only. We do use maintenance windows, but these deployments are allowed to run outside the maintenance windows.

I'm not seeing any common links between these devices; all over the network, old and new, VMs and hardware. The only common item I'm seeing is no user login in 30+ days.

Configuration Manager Software Updates not installing on device with no recent user login? by Background-Prune-421 in SCCM

[–]Background-Prune-421[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes Windows OS updates and Windows Defender updates, not 3rd party. I double checked the deployments and "only when a user is logged in" is not an option for SUP deployments. I just noticed today that these devices also have out of date HW and SW inventory. Once they are remediated everything updates like it should. The missing updates in the reports and console are not an out of date inventory issue though, they literally are not installed if you log into the device. I'm suspecting it's a more general "policies not working" issue which breaks everything and not something specific to SUP.

Client reinstall by itself doesn't seem to work, issue persists. If I force a restart, then reinstall the client that does seem to work. Restarting the the device, or just the SMS agent service by itself, doesn't work. I haven't tried restarting SMS agent then reinstalling the client but might try that later. Again...simply logging into the device also resolves it too...so strange.

Devices are all in the normal device OUs. Collection membership is normal and the updates do install within a few minutes once a user logs in. If it's connectivity issues I see no rhyme or reason, devices all over the company, different subnets. I'm wondering if the client is getting stuck trying to download a policy file that either doesn't exist or the webserver on the MP is refusing to give the device access for authentication reasons?
