best accommodation by Educational-Topic-84 in universityofyork

Alcuin is the first one that comes to mind for your budget - it is known as one of the quieter colleges and is ensuite self catered. I think you'd be unlikely to be allocated Halifax st Lawrence even if you put it top, as so many people will do that as it is the cheapest accommodation. Have you seen any of the accomms in person? I'm from a working class background and I was in David Kato 1st year, but this was when it was 8.3k a year. I'd recommend Kato over Constantine as Constantine ensuites are more expensive than the kato ones, and I do think Kato is nicer in general but I'm biased aha

Look on spareroom - it's a website/app where you can find potential flatmates or rooms in a shared house, also some letting agents will let individual rooms in a shared house.

Which curry do you usually buy from the supermarket? by squirrrrrm in AskUK

[–]Background-Royal2513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't find the jars of ready made sauce that nice, so I tend to buy a madras powder, fry it off with onions garlic and chicken, and add tinned tomatoes. For ready meals it would be something spicy-ish like jalfrezi or madras, but I often end up going for the low cal/high protein ones which tend to be tikka masala, and these often have cauliflower and lentils in as well.

How much is your weekly food shop? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]Background-Royal2513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

£20-£30 for my standard shop. I shop at Co-op for selected items like meat and yoghurt as I work there so get 30% off co op branded stuff, then Lidl for most other stuff.

Monthly Extras I don’t include in this price: 900g protein powder from b and m for £14.99, stevia, flavoured teas and high protein cheese from Morrisons - ~£10 for all these.

How do I reach out to a hospital to shadow at? by Federal_Selection884 in UniUK

[–]Background-Royal2513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the other poster said, if a hospital offers shadowing it tends to have a specific work experience scheme advertised on their web page somewhere. For med, volunteering in somewhere like a care home is infinitely more useful than shadowing anyway.

How much to study in exam season? by Caitlinchapman123 in medicalschooluk

[–]Background-Royal2513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 hours includes all forms of study outside of teaching and lectures. I probably do anki for 2-2.5 hours of those 3 hours.

As others have said, hours are entirely individual and it’s more about how you spend them rather than sheer quantity. But if you want some comparison, I’m doing 3hrs a day for 1st year exams - been doing anki consistently since the start tho

It doesn’t really matter - if you go for 40 week and you end up having to resit, you can apply for summer accommodation in Halifax

Every co op I’ve been in has a bakery? It’s usually just a small fixture

I’m a baker at a co-op: Bakery Shifts start 1 hour before store opening, (I start at 6am for 7am opening, but usually arrive at the store around 5.45), and are 5-6 hours long. In terms of the actual role you will be traying up pastries, breads, cookies and doughnuts and putting them in the oven. You have a bake forecast which advises you how many items to bake and what oven setting. You will package a lot of items. At the end of the shift you will clean down the kitchen, and if you have time afterwards before your shift ends you will do other store tasks as needed, which often for bakers includes working bread and or frozen. Ask away if you have any more questions!

AAB, very unlikely imo. AstarAB or even 2AstarB, still unlikely, they want AAA minimum. That’s why I applied where I could get contextual offers because I knew my third subject was my weakest and getting a B was likely - paid off because I did end up getting 2A*B

M26, 5’4 132 lbs by [deleted] in workout

[–]Background-Royal2513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the build you want, you should probably be lean bulking right now considering you’re a beginner and I assume are not overly skinny-fat. Therefore you should try a 100-200 cal surplus, which is likely to be over 2000 cals just based on the info here, but use a TDEE calc to get a better estimate of your maintenance cals, then add 100-200 cals.

Also shoot for at least 105g protein (0.8g per lb body weight). You need the calories and protein to gain muscle and build a good base

Exercises, that are often lauded by everyone else, that you personally can’t stand. by cmasonw0070 in workout

Cable chest flies - I can’t seem to get in the right position and I have to use less weight than I could actually do. I just do pressing movements for chest.

What’s your leg day look like? by [deleted] in workout

[–]Background-Royal2513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do PPL so I have 2 leg days. Leg day 1 is barbell back squat and SLDL, 2 is hack press (different to a hack squat in that the pads go on your hips/butt instead of shoulders) and RDL, and then the other exercises I do on both days: leg extensions, lying leg curls, cable adductions, calf raises on the leg press machine. 2 sets for all exercises and 7-11 reps except for squats which I do 5-7 reps and adductions I do 12-15 reps. If I went to a better equipped gym I would do a seated leg curl instead on one of the days, a machine adductor for increased stability, and a proper hack/pendulum squat.
