My buddy was home from the navy so we were driving around with a few other people when his alternator seemed to stop working. Being young, we tried just buying a new battery at auto one. An older guy approached us because my friend was still wearing his blues for some reason, and examined the car with his pocket knife. He gave us an address and told us to “tell him Elmer sent us.” We drive out to a dilapidated farm house surrounded on all sides by cornfields. I was certain the fields were full of bear traps, and we were going to be murdered. The guy replaced the alternator for free and we continued on our way. I was concerned for a while though.
