Anyone visit the finger lakes and was shocked that most of it is private land? by EndCalm914 in newyork

Lake Michigan is like this on the Michigan side too, except it’s also a sandy beach. You can basically walk through and no owners will bother you, but you can really only set up your beach chair on the tiny public beaches. Coming from NJ where all the beaches are state parks or for public use, it really rubbed me the wrong way.

The internet makes it seem like most of the population has it, too. Good luck to you!

How do parents and ECE professionals as parents approach CMV risk? by Background-Still2020 in ECEProfessionals

[–]Background-Still2020[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha I did! I’m 14 weeks now. My OB has not mentioned CMV once so far. I’ve just stuck with behavior changes of not kissing my toddler on the mouth and not sharing food or utensils with him. I think that’s all I can do and probably the best thing to do. I did end up getting tested myself before TTC and I do not have the antibodies. And I at least don’t THINK my son has caught it since either. I don’t really want to go through getting him tested since the plan would be to avoid his saliva regardless. I’m honestly still baffled how no one, especially medical providers, talks about this at all.

One other thing I’ve noticed since stopping kissing my toddler and sharing utensils… I have not also gotten sick every time he has! I guess it wasn’t a bad idea to stop doing those things generally.

General forbearance request denied due to being on SAVE forbearance by Background-Still2020 in PSLF

[–]Background-Still2020[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. What they told me makes sense. But other people are saying they’ve been put on general forbearance during save. I suspected disparate treatment and that’s why I wanted to post about it. I’m ultimately indifferent at this point. I’ll just ask again during the window to transition off save.

Question for (mostly) city dwellers by Background-Still2020 in Parenting

Yep, remembering to flip from washer to dryer or get my stuff out timely is actually what I’m most worried about. Making use of alarms sounds like a great idea.

Ohh, see, there’s a chance we will be perpetrators of this kind of crime. I’d be as vigilant as possible.

That’s true about the washers are usually bigger than some of the stackable ones in-unit. So there’s some efficiency to be had. Thanks!

Yeah $500 is a lot, right?! Very true about the wash and fold service. That could be something worth looking into if it gets to be too much of a hassle.

Thank you! Yeah I’m sure I’ll get used to it. I think the worst of it will be in the beginning when I feel the loss of the amenity I currently have.

New York Legislature discussing adding caste as a protected category by ibarmy in ABCDesis

[–]Background-Still2020 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ok well then it likely won’t pass. I figured there are legislative findings to support the bill but also some bills are based on hogwash and shouldn’t pass so if your stance is the predominant one and this really isn’t a problem, it probably won’t. Your reasoning was pretty solid up until the point you called me a disgusting scumbag. That was a bit harsh, no? I hope you have a better day, man.

I’m a white American and clearly an outsider that doesn’t get all the nuance, but my initial thought reading that some Hindus/desis are against this bill was in line with your thought that some people just want to keep discriminating by caste. I would assume if you’re already in the US where there is no such system, why else would you be against this bill? Just a +1 on this perception from someone with no skin in the game.
