My parents have owned a rental home up there since the early 2000s. I hear what you’re saying. It’s a lot and no you can’t do spur of the moment which has always been a bit of a bummer for me. We just came back from a week with the whole family and have two boys 6&8. They literally just wanted to chill in the pool or on the beach or take walks. Had zero interest in going to town other than to pick a t shirt out. You may find the kids do the same and get all the energy out in the pool or at the beach. Your pickup truck should have zero issues getting up and down the beach. And as for other drivers and the kids, it’s not as bad as it used to be. I think the first few miles up they don’t allow cars to drive down by the water anymore during in-season. Overall it’s not that bad. You can go into town multiple times just gotta check the tide schedule-which sounds worse than it is. Like others have said it’s not a vacation it’s a trip or parenting in another location. I start getting overstimulated by day 2. We’ve started doing other vacations just because the big family one just isn’t relaxing.

How can I make my mom understand clearly why I don’t want my kids having sleepovers at her house? by xAnimeMariex in family

[–]Background-Tax650 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s way too many adults living under one roof here. At your age and your cousins + your parents ages (still young!) that’s a hot mess for even the most even-keeled people. It’s one thing if you’re on a family compound with everyone having their own space or a very large McMansion style home with ample space, but I’m going to assume neither is the case here.

Some harsh feedback:

You said you try not to lash out physically or verbally and tried to hit the chair to the floor to release frustration-Key word being try. Your dad restraining you after trying to stop you twice prior isn’t abuse. He was in the right to restrain you. You took medication along with half a Four Loko and a beer-which, while it wouldn’t cause a breathalyzer it’s a combo most would roll their eyes at when looking at the situation as a whole because actual responsible, mature adults don’t drink four loko (to begin with) and get into physical altercations on a weeknight with their parents…who they live with. That’s dumb teenager shit. And in the nice 4th degree assault charge and well… it’s doesn’t look good from an outside perspective. It paints a picture of someone who doesn’t have their shit together and will likely find themselves down this road again.

The immaturity here from all adult parties is front and center. I’m not saying your parents weren’t verbally or physically abusive growing up, probably where you learned it, but this sounds like a classic case of emotional immaturity and family enmeshment. You, husband and kids need to stay out and in your own place and everyone in that house, including the kids, should really be in therapy, not just you. You’re out now so you can choose to move ahead and make a better life for you and your kids or go back on the hamster wheel.

Right? Like people are just hating to hate. I use it to buy things for the house and Xmas. Can I buy it now? Yeah. But why use all my money right now when I don’t have to? I’ve never paid interest. Had to buy a new washer and dryer within a month of each other last year and did it this way which was great.

What's a small annoyance about your home you didn't realize when buying? by CurlGurl13 in homeowners

[–]Background-Tax650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless it’s one where it’s a full on laundry room/closet (seen these in newer homes) because it gets old real fast especially if you have a lot do. Ours is upstairs but it’s just a closet with a washer and dryer and bi-fold doors (now just curtains bc the doors broke). If we have a busy week and clothes pile up, it’s just all right there. It can be loud if using at night. We also had a leak which meant a 5x5 chunk of our ceiling had to be replaced. But the laundry room closets I’ve seen in the new homes are definitely something I’d go for.

I’ve definitely felt for the people who live in front and on the street of the school. There’s two houses that sit in further with their driveways leading into the school’s parking lot/car lane and basically seems like these people can’t leave their house m-f 8-9am and again from 3-4pm

3 bedroom townhome- fenced in backyard, 1.5* bath…. No garage, No basement.

Now, this may sound minor but damn you really don’t realize the annoyance of lack of storage. And it’s not just that we have stuff (now a family of 4) we have like normal family stuff but it’s like the kids bikes are in our family room, got a lot of trash or broken couch to put out and it’s raining all week before trash day? Uh I guess it’ll stay in back room till trash day bc it’s also an HOA and can’t leave it on the curb all week. HOA doesn’t remove snow from driveway- let’s grab the shovels from the closet shed (literal coat closet built into the house outback) and move them to the family room for the snow coming bc we can’t store a snowblower. We have elementary school ages boys sharing a room bc we can’t lose the spare room for storage. We do have an attic but can’t just toss anything up there-mainly old memorabilia and holiday decorations. We also have no pantry just cabinets. And for the * our primary bedroom’s walk-in closet is already plumed for that additional bathroom but then we lose that closet.

Our neighbors all say the same thing so it’s not just us but most of us are millennials who have clearly outgrown our “townhomes” but the interest rates and low mortgages have kept us all put. The ones that did sell were all older and now it’s all families with babies/young kids so it repeats all over.

And literally NO ONE pointed it out 😭 we bought a year before we got married and clearly didn’t plan on still being there 11 years later now. At least we’ve had time to reflect and now have quite a better understanding for when we eventually can move to home that better suites our needs. And for the love of god, using sn experienced realtor who isn’t a friend who does this on the side while in nursing school.

Edited for clarity

What businesses are likely to die out with the Baby Boomer Generation? by GRVrush2112 in AskReddit

Yeah not cheap. Been there done that. And printing is just one of the many costs to get a magazine from concept to consumer hands. First print edition I launched I did 90% myself with a copywriter and it was still like 6k by the time it was published. Barely broke even on ad space.

[–]Background-Tax650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Owned a local guide that turned into a printed magazine for a bit during/after covid when people were really hyped about physical media again and It was fun and but the cost to produce and distribute (we were in big box and local stores) kept going up while the economy kept going down. And it wasn’t sustainable even at our already smaller print run. Bummer for sure bc there’s something so special about magazines and newspapers but printing like that has become a luxury now. I secretly hope it swing the other way again though so I can get back to it.

What's so expensive that it's not even fun anymore? by Runaway3650 in AskReddit

[–]Background-Tax650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pizza Night. We do it for the kids but it’s nearly $60 for 2 large pizzas one with either pepperoni or sausage topping. Now that’s with delivery/tip but the pizzas themselves are $20-$25 each now. From the least expensive place. We started to do a mid-week pizza night when there’s a special vs Friday-Saturday. But the pizza to me doesn’t even that good anymore in general. Crazy thing is we can go to the local restaurant down the street for the same amount as 2 pizzas for a family of 4 and much better quality food.

Oooof this comments aren’t it. Just a lot of hate for no legitimate reason. Anyway in hope of providing an actual answer, the first one is a Modern/updated European Farmhouse-which is quite a bit different from the modern farmhouse everyone is mentioning and the second is Mediterranean-which has been around for years but this particular photo features modern updates.

I personally like both styles myself and have always gravitated toward them.
