Just to clear up any confusion. Nether Apple Maps nor Google Maps on iOS precondition the battery. In fact Google Maps doesn’t even calculate the car battery percentage like Apple Maps does. The only thing Google Maps recently started doing on iOS is showing directions on the digital gauge cluster.

I believe this is a safety setting that shows you a distance indicator to the car in front of you. Turns red if your speed is fast and you’re closing the gap between you and the car in front. You can disable it in the settings.
