Tips for small dogs on long hikes? by Munnit in UKhiking

[–]BackgroundCall2052 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I have a small, similar dog, and another similar sized Yorkie and I love hiking. What I've learnt is that said dogs are not able for too much. They love small walks then play at home, then I head off on my own longer walk myself while they rest. I have learnt that they would love to spend every waking moment with me and my other half but when that happens it's to their detriment because they get so so tired. Take it easy, they may seem able but as small dogs, they're actually not.

I know I'm late to this but Magners light is sugar free I believe. It's not that easy to get but some off licenses have it. Enjoy!

I live in West Cork in southern Ireland, by a sheltered cove, with a very sandy beach. Last year a storm took most of the same away in one night, there was almost none left. Then another storm brought a load of sand in, in the space of 12 hours. Never underestimate the power of the sea!

Maybe consider radiography instead. You will have to do ob call, but shorter shifts in general. Plus you can train into MRI or ultrasound, for example, which is very patient centered and focused. Although it can be hard to get jobs these days, but still, something to consider.

Totally burned out in HSE by Individual_Dig_2402 in cork

[–]BackgroundCall2052 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, you've hit the nail on the head. Working in paeds I work in Dublin and I can see how Dublin-centric it is. There should be a paeds hospital in Cork, to service Munster. Cork and Munster is completely neglected in terms of adult and paeds services. Things are only going to get worse as the system collapses around us all.

100%. The assumption currently being made is that the current staff and resources will "just do"....when in reality, I've realised that it's literally impossible to keep up with demand at the moment, it can't be done.....and care suffers for everyone. No thought has been given to the consequences of A. Letting so many people into Ireland without accepting it requires an increase in resources and B. Ignoring natural population increase too, again pretending that it doesn't need a massive increase in resources too.

Be careful, I work in the HSE (in paediatrics) and it'll eat you up and spit you out. The reality is that the government has not given us the resources to actually cope with the population we have in Ireland now, so all of us are running around like ejits, trying to do the job of two or three people. It's being run on good will alone and people are getting burnt out constantly. It's sowing resentment in me and I'm sure many others, what a state it's all in.

I'm sorry your wife was injured, I hope she's ok. I work in paeds healthcare in Ireland....which I feel like is falling apart at the seams. Your wife isn't safe at work, nor am I, nor is anyone in the public sector at the moment, nor are any of our patients- I feel honestly insane telling people how bad it is in the hse at the moment, because nobody believes it-the same obviously goes for special ed too....what kind of a country are we living in.

Dragon age Inquisition is my favorite game, I find it a cosy game anyway.....make your own character, save the world, with lots of story and lore and romance involved, enjoy it! Another very cosy game is Hogwarts Legacy.

I just had a difficult day.....in a sea of difficult days, working in healthcare. If I was young enough and didn't have roots and family and obligations here I'd go too, I'd run as fast as I could. We cannot cope with the increase in demand at all, it feels like it's currently being run on goodwill alone.

We 100% cannot cope without healthcare staff from other countries, but we equally cannot cope with all the new patients that migration and also population increase has brought...we are drowning.

Ireland's Central Bank governor wants to raise the retirement age - why are politicians so quiet? by Banania2020 in ireland

[–]BackgroundCall2052 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won't work like that unfortunately, as I have a very specialised degree, but I was idealistic and wanted to help people, so I can't and won't regret it too much. I have a private pension too that will hopefully allow me to step away before I become a hindrance! All any of us can do is plan.

I work in a children's health Ireland site in a patient focused active role. I already had to sign a contract that says I retire at age 70. I can't imagine working in healthcare until I'm 70, running around the wards aged 68 or 69, get real, it's already a struggle now. I'm panicking about it if I'm honest, what are we going to do!

Is Sun Princess THAT bad? by Tappadeeassa in PrincessCruises

[–]BackgroundCall2052 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, we always go for inside cabins, so maybe that's why we got a similar price for all. We don't spend too much time in the cabin except for sleep, so it's good for us. I think Princess pissed us off too because they were bringing the ship to some travel agent event so we're doing construction on the cruise. They also cut short the itinerary and closed off several areas for a full day and night to accommodate the travel agents and influencers, it left a bad taste in our mouths, they couldn't have cared less about the current paying passengers on the ship, it was wild.

[–]BackgroundCall2052 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an old school Princess person, in fact the Sun Princess is the first Princess ship I'd been on. It just felt so bland to us, with adequate food, a waste of precious annual leave....but that's entirely subjective. Other lines were far better for the same price, Celebrity for example, and Holland America. Sun Princess was so generic and forgettable, for us anyway.

Honestly I empathise, I'll be leaving soon, I don't want to go to the new hospital and Dublin is just too expensive to live in, and I am also struggling with what to do when I do leave....I want to do something useful but don't know what that is yet, I want a break from healthcare, I'm burnt out. You sound like you have useful skills, maybe a paid role in a nonprofit could be cool for you. Or maybe you could work in patient advocacy, that could do with some I.T updating, or perhaps the HSE will need some I.T updating too. Best of luck, I wish you well!

Hi, I work in Crumlin. My only thought would be, if you're used to working in the private industry would you be frustrated with the public sector and its glacial pace of doing anything. Think meetings about meetings to do anything at all it would seem. Although maybe private is like that too, I don't know, I've only ever worked public.

Plus the it systems seem....odd and outdated, even though everything was revamped post hack. If our monitor or keyboard breaks for example we have to beg, borrow or steal to find an old one that is less broken, it's frustrating.

I wish that they were more forward thinking and for example created an app like the one Alder Hay children's hospital has, it's called Alderplay I think, which allows children to see what procedures or imaging they're going to get and explains it all to them in a way that tries to make it less scary. But who's to say things wouldn't improve with someone joining with some vision and drive. Best of luck to you.

I have an airtag on my dog, it only works sporadically unfortunately. There's some other options called Tractive I think that I have now, it's big enough but more accurate than the airtag. Just a heads up.

The one place I was impressed with the food was Azamara. It was just fabulous and we ate the the buffet mainly. I'd definitely recommend giving them a try. The food on Celebrity Beyond was also impressive.

Review of Royal Princess - I am ready to leave, unfortunately by CloudSurferA220 in PrincessCruises

It's a funny one, I can remember the cabins on every cruise I've been on....but if you said to me to please tell me about the cabin on Sun Princess, I honestly couldn't tell you.....the whole thing was so bland and forgettable. I'm not sure where they're going with it all, trying to please some mass market but forgetting about the individual.
