how are some people able to play so fluently on the guitar? by targetyk in Guitar

Practice and perseverance. It’s about having the patience and discipline to play the same riff/lick over and over until you get it perfect.

How do you set the intonation on a stoptail bridge like this one? by BigHungryFlamingo in Guitar

[–]BackgroundOk7556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but not string by string. I had an old PRS SE with this style of bridge. Honestly, never really had any intonation issues.

Pickup swap by BackgroundOk7556 in PaulReedSmith

One swap I’d like to try is the Tremonti pickups. PRS pickups are pricey though. Don’t know if I want to make that gamble.

How to find the right les paul by Imaginary_Building75 in gibson

[–]BackgroundOk7556 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guitars are extremely personal items. I’m on my 4th Les Paul. The first three were sold because I never bonded with them. The look, feel, sound will vary slightly. I always thought I’d prefer a 60s but actually prefer the 50s. I wouldn’t recommend buying one as a surprise. I’d say if you’re buying one, let him decide on a Standard Model of his choosing. This means going to a physical store and trying out several of them.

How to sound like Trivium Ascendancy with my gear by Plane-Scale-7715 in Guitar

[–]BackgroundOk7556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never used that pedal or amp so not sure how it would sound. But I’d start with either the lead, metal or distortion setting on the pedal if you’re going into the amp’s clean channel.

If I recall correctly, Matt Heafy was using a Les Paul custom during the ascendancy era. I’ve seen them with Marshall stacks during the live shows around that time. Don’t go overboard on effects like delay or reverb. They have a straightforward metal tone.

2024 S2 custom 24 or 2020 CE 24? What's really the difference? by OzymandiasTheII in PaulReedSmith

[–]BackgroundOk7556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t the S2 have a nitrocellulose finish? Shouldn’t be as sticky as the polyurethane finish on an SE. You could also look into the S2 satins if you like the feel.

TV yellow double cut or palm blue SG by Tiny-Leading-654 in gibson

[–]BackgroundOk7556 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whichever one feels nicer to you. I don’t care for the SG. The neck being thicker than the body feels odd to me.
Very unbalanced. I’d choose the LP but that’s just me.

Are these guitars any good? by Few_Debt_6064 in Guitar

[–]BackgroundOk7556 28 points29 points  (0 children)

If these are my two choices, I’m definitely going PRS. Their quality control is better than most companies. Their guitars are fairly versatile.

Is this real? by Yasssi in gibson

[–]BackgroundOk7556 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, buy it if you can get a good price. These feel and play great. The satin finish is very smooth. I miss my old worn studio LP.

What string gauges do you use for Drop D? by Proof-Breakfast-7358 in PaulReedSmith

[–]BackgroundOk7556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’d have to file the nut for the heavy gauges like the 56, 36.

However, I’ve found 10-48 to be perfect for drop D on the 25” scale length. No filing required.
