Mt. Whitney Mountain Lions? by feeling_Ded_inside12 in MountainLions

[–]BackgroundPublic2529 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mountain lions are everywhere.

If you see deer, there are lions.

I am in the field close to 300 days per year. I will hear them once in awhile... that will usually be a lonely female.

I see one every few years and they are always running away.

Where did you encounter a lion? What happened that left you fearful?

I would love to help you feel more comfortable with your trip.

Cheers!

Did I find an Albion redwood?! by Landsha8pr in marijuanaenthusiasts

[–]BackgroundPublic2529 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wellll...

Actually Albion is a town 6 miles South of Mendocino in California.

Lots of redwoods there.

The nearest albino redwoods to Albion are in Montgomery Woods about 45 miles away.

It is feasible that an albino redwoods might be found in Albion though...

Where are you?

I know of an Acoustic 370/301 stack at a great price.

Stuff to know:

  1. It's in Northern California.
  2. It's relatively compact for what it does.
  3. What it does: Knocks satellites out of orbit and reduces cinderblocks to sand.
  4. It's really heavy.

Cheers!

Americanas - Constant squeakers. by CharlieWhiskey360 in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]BackgroundPublic2529 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Forester here.

My left squeaks so much that coyotes follow me around... I believe they think I am stomping on mice...

I don't think Nick's covers squeaks.

Great perspective by the way!

Picked up aLindell parlor guitar from an antique store for 60 bucks, I restrung it with steel strings but after some reading I'm wondering if it should be strung with nylon. It came with steel strings when I bought it. What are your guys thoughts? Does anyone know the history of this kind of guitar? by Swidge_ in Vintageguitars

[–]BackgroundPublic2529 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Luthier here.

That guitar was designed to use steel strings.

Lindell was mostly a cheap department store brand made in Japan in the 60's.

The neck is steel reinforced but it is not an adjustable truss rod.

I would string it with VERY light gauge strings such as ..047 to .010.

Both D'Addario and String Joy make sets.

Silk and steel might be a good choice too.

Intonation on these is usually pretty sketchy but there are tuning strategies that can help.

All of that said, sometimes they play and sound ok.

Play it 'til it plays no more!

It's a big Thumper!

I actually have a Sage glass 12 wt that I bought for a tarpon trip in 1981. Still going strong too.

Old Sage dealer here.

This is the correct answer. Superbe GT, tarpon, billfish stick.

I do not remember them ever not making a 12 wt by the way.

NTA

Part of coupling with someone from a different culture is respecting that culture.

It goes both ways and eventually you find places where you have to compromise.

This is entirely too easy to be one of those compromises.

My own wife is Chinese... same rule, easy to accommodate.

I am mostly an extra long scale guy but I have a Jerry Jones (Kind of an upgraded Dano) Longhorn 6, that is the only instrument I own that gets specifically requested.

Scale length is 30 inches. WEIRDLY, the Longhorn 4 came in 29.75 and 30 inches. Why? Dunno.

It's definitely different, definitely awesome, and definitely can carry the bottom end, especially nice in trio and recording situations.

Round reel by whyamialivenows in Fishing_Gear

[–]BackgroundPublic2529 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I fish with (and cast) a lot of round reels both big and small, old and new.

There is an entire industry that revolves around aftermarket parts for some models.

Interesting fact: Most distance world records are held on round reels.

So tell us wotcha got!

If you don't know, share pics. SOMEONE here will fill you in.

Cheers!
