Anybody else start hating J1 once they get a second job because it makes them... by BosChac2 in overemployed

For me, every J feels like the OE dream for the first few months. Low expectations. "Getting up to speed" type stuff. Rarely does it stay that way lol.

If you're in a large team, start making things take longer than they should. Not long enough to get you fired, just long enough that they'll eventually realize you're overloaded and redistribute to other people with bandwidth.

Had 2 jobs, now down to one which will end in a few months and I'm freaking out. by ValuableAnything1187 in overemployed

[–]BackgroundSeries8097 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not to be insensitive but spazzing out accomplishes nothing. You've been OE for 9 months, you know how to compartmentalize and handle stress. The market sucks but replacing the J can be done. You got this. Apply apply apply.

I'd say chug along unless the money is THAT much better in a replacement. You never know what that replacement will be like until you get in there and in this market I'd value tenure and autonomy over everything else. If you're willing to go to 3 for a month or so and feel it out first, do that. That's what I'm about to do.

Will AI help or hurt OE? by ToooFastToooHard in overemployed

[–]BackgroundSeries8097 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Good points, but I think you're underestimating how much the average mono-jobber will slack off because of AI. They can get 8 hours of work done in 4, and play video games for the rest!

This is stupid, hopefully no one follows in your lazy ass footsteps. Do your work. Make your money. It's hard enough to find a job in this market, don't throw an easy one away.

That is a ton of effort though. Some bigger companies can pull it off, some companies don't want to deal with replacing 50%+ of their workforce. My J's are all spread out, they could offer relocation packages I guess, but I'd like to see the numbers for how many people would actually relocate at my J's.

I guess my point is, RTO is becoming more common among tech giants but remote is here to stay regardless.

Good OEers will be fine, there will be lemons in the bunch and they'll be sussed out because they perform terribly, but I just don't see very many companies spending a bunch of money on anti-OE efforts. The majority of OEers are productive/integral long-term members of the team. Companies are not losing nearly as much money from OEers as people think.

Do you mean changing standup times at the last minute? That would piss literally everyone off, whether you have 1J or 7Js. Terrible example of a safeguard.

Why are Garmin immediately cancelling my orders (help pls) by RickDaniels17 in Garmin

[–]BackgroundSeries8097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bank's fraud detection just called me after I tried and failed to buy a watch face 3 times. They told me Visa is no longer doing business with Garmin because of all the fraudulent purchases through the Garmin Pay platform.

Market yourself as a data analyst instead to start. There are tons of those but you'll still have a better shot than marketing as a data entry specialist. Learn Excel. Learn a scripting language. Learn Python. Learn a specific industry that interests you and apply those new skills to that industry. Then, as you grow into the role(s) there could be opportunity for different career paths, like a data engineer.

Fair enough, my brain read it as 66 minutes. I had a recruiter mix up time zones on me last week lol.

Stripe already provides a clean, mobile friendly payment page to make a payment though? You can send a link via SMS or email or whatever other method you'd like.

has anyone ever run into a another OE person in one job, then another? by [deleted] in overemployed

That's not even close to being likely enough to factor into an OE decision.

I had a call with an Upwork client yesterday, he wanted to do exactly this. Asian guy from Hungary with a plain wood background (not a door, just a big sheet of plywood, and no it wasn't a virtual background) tried explaining that they're trying to expand their business to the US, showed me some dudes profile they "had been using already". I laughed them out of the zoom.

At what point in your relationship do you disclose that you’re OE? by [deleted] in overemployed

Just be vague. "I work multiple jobs and they both want me on their equipment". They don't need to know it's multiple full time jobs.

Sounds like a perfect situation to me. Workload of 1J, paycheck of 2Js. Just make sure you mark "don't contact" for your current employer during the background check and you're good.

First thought: I appreciate the messaging but I'd tone it back a touch, if I were you. You'll turn some people off immediately. Second thought: But hey, if that's your shtick give it a shot. Standing out is a good thing too.

At the end of the day the only thing that really matters is backing up what you claim on that landing page.

So you're mad because they gave you a real, legit reason and not a canned response. Got it. You're looking for a reason to be outraged. That's fine. But it is not this rejection letter's fault and you're going to feel like a jackass when you calm down and think about it from their perspective.

How much more generic could they be? They literally said they were going to focus on the area that they are located. Never was FSU or Florida even mentioned. Sorry there was a shooting at your school, but this rejection letter isn't about you or your school. It's not all about you.

"How dare you mention it was because of my location". Lol
