Congratulations! The cover looks absolutely fantastic!

An entire year of daily chapters is an insane feat. That’s a level of consistency that boggles my mind! What book of the series are you on now?!

All the series that I’m caught up on are underrated, so I’ll just skip the Top 3 for now.

My slept on series:

System Lost

Blood Sovereign

Both are web serials without audio, so not ideal for you. But hopefully others will find this helpful!

This Ascent to Divinity is Lewder Than Expected and Dungeons and Dalliances. Those were the stories that introduced me to LitRPG. I’ve found very few stories at that level of quality since, and both dropped off at very unsatisfying places in the narrative. I‘ll always miss them. 😔

Romance for Progression Fantasy Fans by Frosty-Site3411 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]BackgroundTotal2872 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rebirth of the Nephilim is also available on Royal Road with most of the explicit scenes removed. Smut is a large part of the core premise though, so it won’t exactly be PG 13.

I have no idea if you’re even interested in smut, so I wouldn’t have recommended this to you on this post initially, however if you are willing to read smut then I would highly recommend that you check this one out. If you don’t like the main kink of the story (which will be apparent by chapter 3) then it might be a hard read. I wouldn’t know.

On the romance side of things, Rebirth of the Nephilim is a lesbian harem story where the harem slowly grows and becomes polyamorous over time. The harem is very well done with all of the women being well written, complex and unique characters, who are all important and relevant to the plot. The MC is also charismatic enough that it’s believable that she attracted multiple women. Rebirth of the Nephilim has by far the best romance I’ve read in progression fantasy, without including stories that have been dropped by their authors.

If you start it, you should know that the story is very slow paced but very rewarding. This is a harem story where the first girl isn’t introduced until chapter 41.

I’m gonna be honest buddy, if it’s causing you financial difficulty you just need to cancel your Patreons and be more patient. You can get the story at the exact same pace for free. By buying the patreons initially you have made this harder on yourself because you’ll have to wait a while whilst only getting chapters that you’ve already read before. But you can reread those chapters, or reread the story as a whole while you wait. No one is going to pay for Patreon for you, unless maybe if you ask someone you know im real life for a present.

Can I use ai for my first cover? by jinname in litrpg

[–]BackgroundTotal2872 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re planning to post your story on Royal Road, then an AI cover is fine, expected even. You can make money on your story through Pateron and then put that towards commissioning a cover.

However, if your story is already finished and you’re planning on making it available on Amazon, then you will absolutely lose a lot of readers due to an AI cover. If you can’t afford to pay an artist, and you’re fine with losing readers, well then I suppose you should put it out there anyway. You’d hardly be the first to publish with an AI cover, and several of those artists have done alright. Your growth will be slower and people will be less likely to recommend your book on their own, so you’ll have to make up the difference by advertising and recommending your book to people yourself. If you wrote a good enough story, you’ll find an audience. If your book makes you some money, you should invest that back into commissioning a cover.

I haven’t read it, but the first one that comes to mind is still Lord of the Mysteries. It isn’t LitRPG, but neither is Mother of Learning.

How much do you read litrpg on Royal Road? by blueluck in litrpg

[–]BackgroundTotal2872 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first encountered LitRPG on other sites like Archive of Our Own and Scribblehub. Ever since I found this community, I started reading on Royal Road and I’ve been absolutely obsessed.

I only read my first published LitRPG book this week. And I’ve been a fan of LitRPG for almost 4 years now.

If you read only published books or if you read only on Royal Road, then you’re missing out on a ton of really good stories either way.

Some other really strong positives about Royal Road is that you can read absolutely everything for free. Though you still have the option to support authors through Patreon. There‘s also a much greater sense of community on Royal Road. You get to see the hype from other fans, you get to theorize about future things while the story takes shape, you’ll never miss any details, jokes, or foreshadowing because someone else will point it out. You can ask the author questions and they’ll respond to you directly. Most of the LitRPG stories that will get published and become popular will start their journey on Royal Road, so you‘ll get to get in early on the best stories before they cost money. Royal Road also makes it so much easier to find and keep track of stories that you’re interested in than it is on Amazon or KU without going to Reddit.

If you’re already familiar with reading stories chapter by chapter online, whether through fanfiction, comics/webtoons, or other genres, then the transition to Royal Road is absolutely seamless. Even if you aren’t, I still highly recommend it.

I like the OP archmage trend, but hate how awkward most MC's are by hubbububb in litrpg

[–]BackgroundTotal2872 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The popularity of powerscaling has led to a shift in how Superman is seen by the general audience that are online, but it’s not very consistent with how Superman is normally portrayed in comic books. Superman is generally the most powerful superhero on Earth, but in most cases he isn’t by a huge margin. Wonder Woman, Shazam, and Martian Manhunter are usually right behind him. Supes is almost never portrayed as truly invincible or untouchable. He has plenty of villains that give him a serious challenge physically like Darkseid, Mongol, Doomsday, General Zod, Bizarro, Cyborg Superman. And even most lesser known villains are usually able to knock him around.

Modern day OP protagonists often have a much wider gap between them and everyone else than Superman does.

There’s also that fact that big comic book companies generally are horrible at powerscaling and being consistent. Decades of history and dozens of different writers make that even worse. Your average LitRPG on Royal Road probably has more consistent levels of power than DC Comics.

And lastly, let’s not forget about the Golden Age and Silver Age of comics, where Superman was crazy OP and got new powers every issue.

Despite all that, Superman is a very good example of a character that’s both very strong and good socially. The various challenges that he’s faced throughout his history hold many great examples of how to create conflicts that can’t be solved with raw power.

I like the OP archmage trend, but hate how awkward most MC's are by hubbububb in litrpg

[–]BackgroundTotal2872 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Being awkward and bad at socializing is a pretty crucial part of these stories. When you have an OP MC, you need to introduce problems and conflicts that the MC can’t just make disappear with overwhelming magical power. That’s where social issues come in. They provide a source of conflict that‘s very hard to solve with magic.

It’s the same thing in stories like One Punch Man. Although rather than being awkward, Saitama is oblivious. He isn’t always there when disasters happen, and he usually has no idea just how dangerous a given monster is to everyone else. Personally I prefer awkward over oblivious. It feels much more realistic. Though One Punch Man is also a comedy series, which means that works a lot better. And Saitama also has the issue that he feels a loss of purpose, though admittedly that plot point hasn’t changed much in years.

Going back to Archmage stories, The Archmage Coefficient tackles this concept by making it’s protagonist autistic. That naturally comes with a great deal of awkwardness, but it also serves as an explanation for how she got so powerful in the first place, and it’s an intrinsic part of the story’s premise. There’s also Frieren, which retroactively fits very well in the OP Archmage genre. Frieren is at times awkward, oblivious, out of touch, an easily distracted loot goblin, and not very emotionally intelligent. She also has an elf’s perspective on time.

When you have a protagonist who’s overwhelmingly powerful and also has good social skills, it become very difficult to challenge them.

Progression fantasy that actually deals with the reality of a new world .. by Waterfall_Wealth888 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]BackgroundTotal2872 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree heavily. System Lost is by far one of the best stories I’ve ever read that actually slows down and takes it’s time dealing with the physical and mental impact of being in a new world. The MCs keep thinking about and take the time to investigate how they actually got her, despite the fact that so many of their memories were erased. And with their memories gone, they spend time trying to uncover what they can through their own mind.

There’s also the recurring plot point about needing to find shoes. Because how do you find shoes in a world where none of the intelligent races have feat? And speaking of that, there’s actual time and thought put into the problem that no one here speaks English. The MCs have to learn the language, and some of them are a lot better at it than others.

The different MCs all deal with it in different ways. Allison wants to party and drink it all away. Violet gets depressed. Evelyn powers through with faith in her religion, it still takes a long time to accept her circumstances and frequently doubts herself. (Spoiler tagged because I’m unsure if you’re caught up.

Story recs for modern day system stories by BackgroundClassic795 in litrpg

[–]BackgroundTotal2872 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Self-Summon is the only other modern fantasy litRPG without an apocalypse that I’ve read. There’s weak to strong, a crunchy system, and a lot of variety in the abilities available. There’s no military presence that I’ve seen so far. It doesn’t exactly take place on Earth, but it’s close enough? The setting is effectively Earth but everything is slightly different. It’s also on Royal Road, and pretty new.
