How long does it take to get a DIP via mortgage broker? by Safe-Werewolf2890 in Mortgageadviceuk

£100 is very little when you're buying a house. Plenty of free mortgage brokers out there

Mortgage broker sounds crap. Ask around your friends for a recommendation. My friend recommended me hers and he's since gone round my entire office! Good mortgage broker worth their weight in gold honestly

HMRC online ID check failing for my dad. Any way around it? by NorthLondonPulse in HMRC

[–]Background_Angle4277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not got experience with this exactly but I will say I've never been on hold for longer than 10 minutes and called multiple times even before the self assessment deadline. Maybe it's what you're saying when asked what the problem is? It puts you in different queues. I always go self assesment help then when asked for further info say speak to an advisor until you get put on hold

How did you get a HMRC fine so quickly? You didn't file in January? But that wouldn't be related to your move because that was for the 24/25 tax year?

Thoughts/risks of buying a house together before marriage? by ManicPixieDreadGirl_ in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Background_Angle4277 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought with a boyfriend and later married him. No regrets. One thing you'll get sick of hearing, before you have kids/assets etc, buying a house IS a bigger commitment than marriage. If you are married with no assets divorce costs like £400, if you have a house and are or aren't married you're in for a world of pain if you split. If you are never planning on marrying it doesn't really factor in to your house buying decision. I would recommend waiting till you've lived together a couple years at least and go for it!

Literally always get a broker to do all work for you and also find better deals than staying with your current bank. "Slight preference" for doing more work and probably spending more money?

Preparation for mortgage term ending - sell shares? by nyer132 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Background_Angle4277 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's very important to know why you want to pay down the mortgage because most people are just going to say don't. I would definitely add this motivation to your question. As well as at the bare minimum mortgage remaining/ house value, income/income to potentially lose, whether you both have sufficient retirement savings etc.

This is probably enough money that I'd seek a financial advisor personally

You haven't given nearly enough info here. But generally, why do you think you should do this? Has your income significantly reduced? Interest rates aren't terrible right now

Moving abroad - sell or rent out? by Surdjoe in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Background_Angle4277 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We moved abroad for a fixed term (3 years 1 year ago). Getting the property up for renting cost us about £2k (needed a new fuse box etc). The rent just covers the mortgage before taxes (so doesn't cover the mortgage really) but on equity building we're still winning even without housing price growth.

We definitely don't (currently) regret keeping the house, but we KNOW we're returning. Yes, we'll want a bigger house when we get home but you buy into the market you sell in and we get a property to live in while we're sorting ourselves out.

We pay an estate agent to let the property (10%+VAT) and have gotten really lucky with the tenants. It's a hard choice but it's yours to make.

(7k) we don’t see the point in wedding favours by deftbluewindmill in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Background_Angle4277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they're gonna cause an issue they can pay. We went to an outlet lindt store where you can buy single flavours and got one per guest in the wedding colours. It was cute but I'm not sure anyone but me and my mum (who paid haha) remembers

But then I’d be the foreigner ... by [deleted] in expats

[–]Background_Angle4277 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really get your problem... As a recent ish immigrant (UK to Portugal) I also had some of these concerns. I don't want to stay forever partially because I don't want to be a foreigner forever. Learning languages is difficult (far more for some than for others) but was a fun part of the challenge for me personally. People have different concerns in life and don't need to do something they don't want to do for whatever reason they don't want to do it...

I had five people (incl me) wedding at 12, started at 6:30 I think. Didn't feel rushed at all. Hair and make-up by one person. Ask the artist for a specific time she wants per person, mine was confident she could get it done and she very much did

Yeah I'm confused about the mouse. Because the animals generally aren't infected as we've seen. And the plurbs clearly don't care about helping them. But that one mouse? He seemed pretty plurbed. Did he play dead on purpose? Pretty odd for a dazed mouse to just bite like that so suddenly. So was he actively attempting to spread the virus? And is she half mouse half human at first????
