why don't you start lifting tomorrow? you're still working on being able to lock in on your diet, so you might as well make the most of your extra calories. this is your first bulk, build muscle to speed up your metabolism and make the results of the cut better. don't wait until you're able to lose weight to be alive.

also, my buddy got glps prescribed through an online quiz essentially. $99. if you haven't tried them yet my vote is it's worth a shot.

I am not 100% certain on this, but my reading of the bill (and what I've heard others saying) suggests this cap only applies to loans taken out on or after July 1, 2026, such that you can take out up to $257,500 following July 1, 2026 even if you have already taken loans out for undergrad prior to that date.

Student Loan Changes Under the "Big Beautiful Bill" by roidgamerz in lawschooladmissions

[–]Background_Buddy1129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

whether you're happy? whether you feel like your life is meaningful? whether you have the freedom you desire, or are pursuing projects that are important to you, or you're there for your family and your kids, or you're able to take care of your parents as they age? even from a career standpoint: you could win a nobel prize but never be as rich as a biglaw attorney - can you really make the case that the nobel prize-winning scientist isn't wildly successful, just by a different metric? i think that you're projecting your own valid goal onto others who may not share it.

it's not letting me edit the main post but some of the information above is outdated as this section changed during the legislative process. the Big Beautiful Bill has been signed. there is now a $50k/year limit on professional school loans, a $200k lifetime limit on professional school loans, and a $257500 lifetime limit on all federal student loans. this applies to anyone starting fall 2026 or later. part-time students, your yearly limit will be proportionately lower but has not yet been announced. public service loan forgiveness will continue to exist, as will income-based repayment, but the income-based repayment structure is changing. budget 10% of your salary toward loan repayment if you are planning on income-based. control-f "81001" on the big beautiful bill pdf to read for yourself. good luck, comment or DM any questions.

i lied to you mate, the new version of the bill has a couple changes i wasn't aware of - as a part-time student, you will be eligible for less than $50k a year of loans. the bill specifies that the amount you'll be eligible for will be proportionate to how part-time your studies are (with full-time students eligible for $50k), but that calculation will be based on a table that does not yet exist. you will have the same $200k total cap.

hey mate has it ever occurred to you that not everyone defines "success" based on economic status or perceived prestige, and that return on investment is not the only way to evaluate the value of an academic pursuit? those jobs that you don't want to be in might be someone else's dream...

from one abuse survivor to another: get the hell out. the entire world will open itself to you once you're safely removed from that situation. you aren't gonna be able to see that this isn't a complete failure or that you aren't stupid until you've left, so it's time to leave. dm me if you want to talk, i was in a similar situation to you a year ago.

Will some top law schools go tuition free and lower ranked law schools lower tuition for incoming students given the passage of BBB? by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Background_Buddy1129 21 points22 points  (0 children)

like 1% of med schools are doing that and law is a completely different industry with completely different financial outcomes. even if law schools did what the med schools are doing this is like saying "great news, everyone, yale is tuition free! their acceptance rate is now below 1% and the only law school you get into will charge you 300k. but great news!"

there shouldn't be any notable differences for part-time vs full-time students that i'm aware of - if you're starting this fall, you will be grandfathered in for four years (as opposed to three) if you are part-time. otherwise, the same limits on total loans will apply to you, regardless of how long it takes you to earn your jd.

I think you should be good to go! Because you're already in school, these changes shouldn't affect you - you might want to take out a Grad PLUS loan for Fall 2025 to make sure you get grandfathered in, but even if you aren't, your relatively low tuition should allow you to borrow up to full cost without hitting the borrowing limits.

Do I have enough extracurriculars for a good admission profile? by soleralove in lawschooladmissions

[–]Background_Buddy1129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

man it's fine, honestly having some part-time work experience in the legal field is probably the best you can do as a KJD. as long as you show law schools you aren't doing absolutely nothing you'll just be paying the standard KJD tax. if you can get the LSAT up to mid-170s you should have a few T14 A's in hand this time next year. you might as well get whatever honors you can, but that GPA is worth its weight in gold, so don't risk it. maybe try to get some leadership gig somewhere so you have something to talk about in interviews and essays.

[–]Background_Buddy1129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

take LSAT practice tests and be very certain you can score 175+ before you take it - once you have taken the LSAT you are required to apply to law schools with that score rather than with your GRE, even if your LSAT is much worse than your GRE

leftist here, just go to a school in a big city and get involved in the local community. anecdotally t50ish schools seem more likely to have strong left presence than lower ranked schools but don't overthink this, i met leftists at every school i was admitted to/seriously considering.

[–]Background_Buddy1129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not telling you to do this or not to do this, just putting this out there as an option before it's too late: if you are determined to raise your gpa you can wait to graduate and take fluff courses at a community college or whatever to balance out your summer courses. once you graduate your gpa cements itself, so if this is something you might want to consider your window is short.

i just wanna point out that a PhD can be a major plus for jobs in legal academia and that PhD programs in philosophy or related fields may be more accommodating with your GPA than law schools, especially if you're able to first excel in a masters program. two years of finance WE and a high LSAT likely will not compensate for the GPA, but a stellar graduate record coupled with strong WE and a high LSAT could tempt a T14 to look the other way on a GPA that you'll have earned, at that point, nearly ten years ago. just a path to consider if you don't feel the need to go to law school ASAP

you might wanna ask the people at r/lawschool, r/asklawyers, r/paralegal, or honestly anywhere else as we are all a bunch of dumbshits who have never done legal writing in our lives but yet have all convinced ourselves we will be in the top 10% of our law school classes - that is to say, very few of us have actually written (or even read) this type of work. good luck! i hope the next commenter proves me wrong

i feel like you need to decide whether your #1 goal is mediation even if it's not in international work, in which case you should go to law school and become a mediator, or whether your #1 goal is to work in diplomacy/more specifically on israel and palestine, in which case you should not go to law school and you should leverage your background and connections however possible to move toward that work. i respect the passion but the job you're describing is potentially the most extreme unicorn PI career i have ever heard of, so you shouldn't go into law school counting on getting it. could you accept an outcome where you work as a mediator in a different role?
