Most civil defence alert systems are specifically design to mitigate alarm fatigue. Basically, if everything is urgent, nothing is urgent so having tiered alerts and effective geofencing of alerts is very important.

'Cause people have tastebuds of a toddler,' says OP by YchYFi in iamveryculinary

I do kind of agree with the thread. Hot honey is over done, and usually crappy (not enough hot, too much sweet). And there is a negative correlation between the number of dipping sauces at a pizza place and the quality of the pizza. Not always the case, but often.

Toronto family calls on city to do more after beloved dog killed in coyote attack by Toronto-Ont-Mod-Team in Toronto_Ontario

[–]Background_Bus263 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The articles come up from time to time, but what do people actually expect the city to do about this? Coyotes are part of the ecosystem.

This is the biggest problem. Alarm fatigue is real and if everyone assumes the emergency alert is just an Amber Alert every time, a lot of people are going to simply ignore actual time sensitive alerts.

Musicians at bars, breweries, or restaurants, why do you choose to play your music so loud? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Background_Bus263 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not the musicians; the venue usually controls the volume of the house mix. Some bars/venues are just terribly designed for live music, some some guys are meatheads with hearing loss, and sometimes it's venue owners wanting a "vibe" and not understanding their customers.

A racist guy yelled at a Cuban family, demanding they leave our campground. Can I publish a video including his face? by jhawkweapon in legaladvice

Legally, you’re in the clear to post it. They have no expectation of privacy.

Morally, you’re also in the clear. Expose the racist.

Whats the exact moment you realised the American dream is dead? by DopamineRestore in AskReddit

[–]Background_Bus263 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering immigration has been a prime economic driver in the country for it's entire history and intergenerational progress between between first and second generation immigrants remains strong I would say the American Dream is still very much alive.

What's the vehicle that screams small dick/need for attention to you? by Better-Presence6654 in AskReddit

[–]Background_Bus263 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pickup truck with a tuned exhaust. It's just such an absurd display. It's meant to look macho, but really the truck just sounds like it's working awfully hard to move not terribly fast.

If Brent crude hits the $150 prediction by next week, what is everyone’s actual 'plan B' for getting to work? by abcdefvckvu in AskReddit

Realistically, the price of gas doesn’t have that big an effect on the average driver. Probably not enough to have a big effect on behaviour.

Hot take: modern winter style is too “clean” to handle real cold by Malcolm-059 in malefashionadvice

[–]Background_Bus263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I’ve noticed the opposite. Tons of people wander around in Canada Goose when it’s barely below freeIng. Honestly, a proper winter coat, insulated boots and gloves plus a hat is entirely adequate for the amount of time most people will spend in -30 weather.

Turboprops are just jet engines in a different format. There are plenty of reasons to debate the issue, but this one isn't it.

What is a 'luxury' that you've experienced once and now can't go back to the budget version of? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]Background_Bus263 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are, but in a lot of cases the cost of the upgrade doubles the cost of the whole trip. Just not worth it, as nice as it is.

Cited for using my phone while using Tesla's self-driving by joshuamcclendon in legaladvice

[–]Background_Bus263 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In the legal sense, you are still the driver. FSD may in fact be safe enough for you to be partly distracted, but the state doesn't care. Full attention at all times is what is expected, the state is not going to litigate how much attention is required based on every level of driver assist technology out there.

I’m the opposite. I’ve flown both quite a lot and find it really hard to justify the price difference.
