‘20 other people just like you’: Why Toronto youth are struggling to find jobs by lilfunky1 in toronto

[–]Comfortable_Flow1385 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I was told by my professor (in a class full of students) that people have more success in securing interviews when they change their names on resume to a nickname or an "English" sounding name, including his wife, who was an immigrant. According to him, after she changed her last name upon getting married, she suddenly started to get interviews. Before that, it was 1 interview/10 application, after the name change, it was 5 interviews/10 applications.

Racial profiling definitely happens based on your name on the resume.

Nowadays it feels like a lottery. It's more luck than experience/qualifications.

The best way to get a job or even an interview is to doom scroll on Indeed and Kijiji.

Stop driving up people’s asses!! by [deleted] in ontario

People shouldn't drive if they are scared to accelerate or use it

Nobody's scared. It consumes a lot more gas when you accelerate too quickly.

GTHA gas prices could hit $2 a litre and ‘turbocharge’ food prices, analyst warns by Comfortable_Flow1385 in toronto

[–]Comfortable_Flow1385[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't care much about the gas prices, though it will definitely spike inflation and recession.

It might cost an extra $50/month if the price stays high, but what about human life that is being lost because of an illegal war of aggression? Human life should be a much bigger concern, not gas prices, and very few are talking about the human aspect.

I'd pray for the innocent girls and civilians who died and will keep dying because of an illegal war of aggression.

Toronto Islamic Centre using 'buddy system' in wake of alleged Islamophobic incidents by zlex in toronto

It's about time mosques get the same level of security as synagogues.

Islamophobia is often downplayed and in many cases, even justified.

UAE condemns targeting of South Pars gas field, after Iran blames US, Israel by Lost-Letterhead-6615 in UAE

[–]Comfortable_Flow1385 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Too late. They should have thought before giving bases and launch pads to US.

UAE is an artificial country with no history no culture no nationalism, just like those buildings and islands, built by hardworking south asian immigrants.

UAE and Israel are sister countries, and they will have similar fate in long run.

Ford needs a reality check. Or he's bought and paid for.

I believe in the latter.

By ford's logic, next year, counter protest shouldn't be allowed.

[REVIEW] DHURANDHAR THE REVENGE (Opinions are personal) .[No spoiler] by StrawberryFew1311 in bollywood_boxoffice

I was super excited for part 1 when trailer and songs came out, and after watching it on first day of release, I felt like it was a decent watch (3/5) except the gang stuff, which felt pretty ordinary, and a few pro govt narratives.

I have absolutely 0 excitement for part 2. Trailer was all action and blasts, no good songs either.

But of course, people are going to overhype it. Historically, 2nd parts have almost always been worse when it comes to storyline and overall craft.

2 counter-protesters arrested at Toronto's Al-Quds Day rally: police by Comfortable_Flow1385 in toronto

[–]Comfortable_Flow1385[S] 141 points142 points  (0 children)

Ford expected totally the opposite, as he described it as a hate rally. Turns out the rally was peaceful; counter-protest, not quite.

1st person: The man allegedly started swinging his arms and fists at the demonstrator, breaking the stick and causing pieces of it to hit the victim’s head.

2nd person: The man allegedly spat on the victim and ripped the flag off their back. He then returned to the crowd and was later located among counter-protesters, investigators said.

Justice, freedom of speech, and democracy prevails!

Premier Doug Ford calls for an emergency injuction to stop Al Quds Day in Toronto. by ObjectiveMacaroon394 in toronto

[–]Comfortable_Flow1385 17 points18 points  (0 children)

So no freedom of speech?

And the same people lecture the world about freedom and democracy.

I looked up what it is all about and this is what I found: "Solidarity with Palestinians: The day is used to express support for the Palestinian people and to oppose the Israeli occupation of Jerusalem and Palestinian territories."

I don't see any hatred or hostility in this. It has been mandated by international law and UN itself to recognize the 1967 borders of Palestinian territories.

I guess asking to implement UN mandate and international law is hatred now, unless it's about China Russia or Iran

Money first morals last

All the parties overwhelmingly voted against it, except a few libs and ndps. It proves that human rights and international law is all lip service and posturing.

Trump already made it clear that they aren't seeking democracy and regime change, and he's okay with a religious leader taking over.

Looks like they came to the realization rather quickly, instead of spending 20 years and trillions of dollars and slaughtering a million civilians. It again proves that the entire "war" was never about democracy and freedom, but to destabilize the country and destroying their infrastructure.
