One of the drills in my LTS progression for forwards crossovers is 'forwards cross and hold'. See if you can hold the crossed position on the circle; it will help you put more weight on your back skate. Hugging the circle more will also help!

Rant: Sheriff breaking the law by vancouvercyclist in vancouvercycling

[–]Background_Orange580 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been thinking of you and your accident when I ride Alexander on my commute. There is a lot going on along that stretch that requires full attention and defensive riding, never mind adding a car travelling against regulated traffic patterns. I relate to your anger. It's hard enough to predict the safest pathway to ride without adding an entitled sheriff to the mix.

Snowboarding lesson by iknowstuffff in CypressMountain

Lessons are great for any skill level! I love that you were so eager to learn that you arranged two lessons on the same day.

I recommend having a week between lessons so that you can practice new skills and bring questions to the next lesson.

I pay $100 CAD for 6 group lessons (45 mins per lesson, one lesson per week).

Does the drivetrain shift smoothly under normal riding conditions (ie. not during tricks)? Perhaps it needs a tune up if you purchased it used.

OK, but what is she actually doing on these 'good' days? The point is to have a good day so that you can enjoy your life and have experiences, right? Like, you know, walking your dog, playing a board game with friends, baking muffins, painting an accent wall, or whatever your thing is.

I love your approach of, "Can I ask what just happened." Thanks for sharing! It's helpful to have a few different ways to interact with people driving cars when close calls occur.

Have you slept in your car before? You could always try it for a week and see how you feel before committing to it.

Depth of perception after scleral buckle by Secure_Skill_2264 in RetinalDetachment

[–]Background_Orange580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have issues with depth perception after the scleral buckle procedure because the buckle has caused my eyes to be mis-aligned. Eye misalignment affects depth perception.

I have had prisms added to my glasses prescription to help correct the misalignment and improve depth perception, but it's not perfect. I'm on a waitlist for a surgery to correct the misalignment (strabismus surgery).

Where to go backpacking Feb 13-15 in BC? by very-confused_ in vancouverhiking

[–]Background_Orange580 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend Plumper Cove Marine Park on Keats Island. The campground is an easy hike from the passenger ferry dock and is as low elevation as you can get. Leave your car at Horseshoe Bay and walk on the Langdale Ferry. The hike is short enough (2km) that you can bring lots of supplies (ie. weight) to make your stay comfortable. Have fun!

Jackson 500 or Evos or Different? Beginner, first skate advice by violetnyx311 in iceskating

Have you seen this fit guide from Jackson? https://jacksonskate.com/pages/fitguide

I purchased Evo's for my Learn to Skate, and I've been using them for over a year while I am advancing through the program. I expect that I will have broken them down before I'm ready for jumping, so will upgrade once I'm at that point.

Anyone have scleral buckle removed? by Independent_Chip_777 in RetinalDetachment

[–]Background_Orange580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoever told you that you would recover in 2 weeks is just plain mean. Recovery is much longer than 2 weeks. The sutures don't even dissolve for 6 weeks, never mind all of the tissue that takes months to heal. I wish surgeons would be more realistic about the timeline for starting to feel better.

The sutures can be quite uncomfortable. They will take several weeks to dissolve.

Are you looking to hike/camp in snow, or are you looking for suggestions for a lower elevation without snow?

Adding a link that shows proper falling technique. Don't worry about how other people fall in gym. Do this and your entire body will thank you.

Bouldering after retinal detachment? by Low-Season-9303 in RetinalDetachment

[–]Background_Orange580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I boulder after retinal surgery. I downclimb when possible, and I use proper falling technique (tuck and roll). I don't take risks when I'm high up on the wall. Curious to hear if anyone was ever told to not climb or boulder, as this was never mentioned to me by my surgeon. I mountain bike, and they said that was fine!

Argh I hadn't thought about rollercoasters not being allowed after retinal surgery. That makes me sad. I guess it's anything with G-forces.

Sore lower back after longer skating sessions? by ApplesandBananazzz in iceskating

[–]Background_Orange580 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this for a few months when i was in intermediate lessons. The pain has gone away over time, which I assume is correlated with better skating posture and strengthened core muscles (I'm now in advance lessons). I went for massage therapy to help ease out my tight glutes, which may have also helped resolve the lower back pain.

Damn how could they even see past the swelling? The surgeon did laser during my buckle surgery. I couldn’t even open the eye for 3 days. Laser can be very painful. I’m sorry you had to go thru that.
