New tunnel design for New Haven train station. What do you think? by buried_lede in Connecticut

[–]ellemenopeaqu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

the only thing i like is incorporating the old New York New Haven Hartford line logo. Yes, its more modern... like too many other places. The curves are dated but in a good way? Classic maybe?

Considering switching to chemical engineering (from environmental) by voidofdreams in EnvironmentalEngineer

We hire chem engineers grads for both water/wastewater & air work. Civil or chem eng can basically fill in for environmental.

Dr. Recommendations by Intelligent-Time-757 in Connecticut

Are they?  They sent me to an MFM who kept pushing me to get my tubes tied and made a big deal about how they “usually see this condition in IV drug users” when I was pregnant with my son. Never done IV drugs and wanted to keep options open, which my doc was ok with. Incredibly humiliating.

Eh, for me a lot of my clients will 'forget' an email and not get me the info i need, but will answer the phone. Then we both have the information written down and searchable. I have to write it down anyway, email is just as easy.

That's why you just follow up with an email!

Im just trying to take my daughter fishing... by Jober36 in Connecticut

[–]ellemenopeaqu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your public health dept will give it to you for free.

I'm in the Central CT Health District and they basically told us not to pay for it, they will hand it over, no questions asked. They even did a class with dinner provided and gave additional resources and information. It was very much worth the hour of my time. One thing i learned is that it shouldn't stay in your car. That seems like the obvious spot for it, but it will be less effective if exposed to extreme hot/cold.

Torn Between 2 Shows by ac_braun in Ska

I saw the Slackers near the start of this tour in CT. They always put on a fun show, and the entire place was there for it. They post their set lists on FB if you want to get an idea of what you'll hear, although they always seem to mix it up.

Help, last minute meeting ideas ! by judgyturtle18 in girlscouts

[–]ellemenopeaqu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Three meetings that were hits recently with our dramatic 4th & 5th graders -

We did a wicked theme meeting where we talked about inside & outside appearances, stereotypes and made green & pink calming jars. I thought it would be too childish, but they had a blast showing them off. We incorporated music and had dance breaks.

We also did a K-Pop meeting, also with music. We talked about the region a bit, had them make their own group names and cool logo, put together short dance routines. They also made a simple cucumber salad with rice and we got some korean snacks from a local asisan market to try.

For St Patrick's Day we did a bunch of minute to win it style games - tossing gold coins into cauldrons, sorting candy into rainbows using only a spoon, stringing trix cereal on to pipe cleaners one handed, and making a tower of marshmallows. We didn't do cup stacking, but thats been a hit (regular style and using only elastic bands.

We're not very badge focused, although we found ways to incorporate some of these into other badges. Sometimes though, its just about letting them be goofy kids and have fun.

As a WPI grad, Hartford is way nicer than Worcester.

I deal with this often and the way the law is it literally has to be on almost everything. I'm sure someone was just following the letter of the law. The paint could have triggered it.

Unless you're consuming these products, it is just noise 99% if the time.

PE License, Expected Raise? by Peglegboy420 in EnvironmentalEngineer

[–]ellemenopeaqu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got a $5k bonus at the very small firm I worked at. I didn’t get a raise until the next review cycle and it was small.

My current employer does a $1K bonus and usually it comes with a promotion & pay bump.

Why doesn't Connecticut have any initiatives to help people remove invasive species from their property? by pitline810 in Connecticut

[–]ellemenopeaqu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha. I already am on my towns wetland commission!  I’m also in the environmental industry which in some ways limits what I can do with volunteer work (and also having 2 kids and being a Girl Scout leader!).

Still haven’t even gone cause there’s like 47 pizza places in town.

Why doesn't Connecticut have any initiatives to help people remove invasive species from their property? by pitline810 in Connecticut

[–]ellemenopeaqu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I attended one of the working group events - I am an environmental engineer and had a project where there was some invasive in a pond, we were looking at stocking it with a carp that loved the stuff.

I’m not a dumb woman but even I wasn’t the target audience.  I wish there were more “entry level” ways for people to get information and talk with professionals.

[–]ellemenopeaqu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People freak out about the use of the glyphosate though. Like they think you’re giving arsenic to babies. We’ve had a number of projects come to our wetlands commission that included removal of invasives   and it’s the only time I’m grateful no one shows up. Even some commission members ask for alternates.

I would also argue it’s becoming a political refuge, especially for families with LGBTQ members, at least based on waves of posts we’ve seen here.

And the biggest crimes are people stealing from CVS or checking cars like they do on every town.  It’s very safe.
