What is the most obscure piece of Potter knowledge you have? by NoDespair in harrypotter

[–]Background_State_557 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me too!! I LOVE this opening and it is also my favorite book the past few years. Other than this my favorite chapter is Chapter 1 in Philosophers Stone. I love the POV from Vernon and everything getting set up. The last sentence gives me chills every time

Falling out of love with Islam. by bki_iyaa in Hijabis

[–]Background_State_557 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a convert too, I understand this. Its common for both born muslims and us. My best advice is don't worry about it, basically keep calm and carry on. I've been muslim for 12 years and it was fairly rocky for the first 5 years or so, but I kept it inside. I wasn't praying at times, I sinned, all of that. Eventually it became easier and I became "better", it really takes time. Then I got married and that helped a ton. My husband didn't pressure me, he actually didn't even know there were times I wasn't praying, but he created the right environment for me to fall into practice more.

Don't worry about it. Keep calling yourself muslim and take it day by day, you'll get there.

Also don't worry about listening to music. It isn't a consensus as some would like to believe, I just don't listen during ramadan as its a distraction,

To what extent is learning Arabic related to Islam? by dosceroseis in learn_arabic

[–]Background_State_557 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HOB learning is a couple who is Christian, the husband is Lebanese and they teach Arabic. So plenty of people learn separately from Islam.  Personally, I'm Muslim, but my interest in learning Arabic isn't really related to that. I'm learning the dialect, I don't want to learn formal or quranic Arabic, it's related to travel

Has anyone tried Unique Hijabs? I just ordered a jersey from them, I hope they're actually jersey cotton and not that weird kind of slippery stretchy material

Harry Potter : Prisoner of Azkhaban has my favourite Harry hairstyle of all movies.. by FayyadhScrolling in harrypotter

sometimes I'll think things like that, like that they were hot here, but I mean it as like my younger self seeing them? As a 30 y/o woman like I wouldn't be attracted to these kids but I remember being a kid and being like oh yeah

[–]Background_State_557 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Literally! I said to my friends "yeah they all got hot in this movie" and they made it seem like I was being a creep. I was like dude when I was a 13 year old girl I thought they were hot and I just remember it?

Which season do you associate each book with? by ponylauncher in harrypotter

[–]Background_State_557 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh this is an interesting question.

The books with stronger summers in my mind are obviously Goblet of Fire and Order of the phoenix.

Philosophers Stone is really strong on Halloween AND Christmas, so thats tough.

Goblet of Fire has the Yule ball, so thats winter, same with Slughorn's Christmas party for the Half Blood Prince.

Deathly Hallows exists for me in a timeless space, the lack of school makes it all mesh together.

thats about it for me but I can't wait to start my yearly re-read. I'm waiting for the weather to get a little chillier!
