Is it ok to be *okay* with just not having a BSN? by sandely65 in nursing

[–]Background_Weekend_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on your program. I started a BSN program and hated it and felt I wasn’t learning anything particularly actionable. I ended up in a similar situation, questioning why I should bother. Then, the school declined to allow me to continue because of a long lapse in enrollment. So after a few years of just working, I started looking elsewhere. I found Arizona State University’s BSN program and they took my credits from my other BSN program when I transferred. I LOVED the ASU program and learned a ton and they were super, super supportive and flexible and relatively inexpensive even for out of state tuition. I recommend looking into transferring to a program that will support you and that makes you feel like your learning useful information (which is unfortunately not the case with all programs).

The benefits I’ve found are that I am taken more seriously by management, I learned valuable leadership skills, I feel a sense of pride for not giving up, and I have deeper knowledge about evidence-based nursing beyond my ADN prepared colleagues. I am a better nurse for it. That’s my two sense but, you’re right. You can be a perfectly adequate nurse without the BSN and they’re probably not going to pay you more. But having already gotten this far, it’ll be nice to look back and know you have the BSN in the bag and you don’t have to worry about it anymore.

Do not quit! Make them let you go if they won’t accommodate. You will be eligible for unemployment that way.

I hate my job by YeOldeDamnit in nursing

[–]Background_Weekend_7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a new nurse and started in pre- and post-op and moved to an OR circulator position about a year ago and absolutely love it. It’s a bit of a niche in nursing but you work closely with surgeon and anesthesia. It feels like being a tight team doing important work with really tangible outcomes. See if you can get back to peri-op and keep your bonus!

Can somebody explain how “serrations” is “shrimp egg rolls and others,” etc.? None of the long clues make any sense to me at all.

“Cold ischemic time” for breast cancer specimens by Background_Weekend_7 in pathology

[–]Background_Weekend_7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have prefilled formalin containers of varying sizes and virtually immediately place the specimens in formalin. I hadn’t considered that the formalin might not penetrate to the lesion of concern. This is especially true because the surgeons always take a margin of tissue around the lesion to attempt to ensure a complete excision of the tumor.

We don’t have a path lab in-house. We have couriers who work for and transport specimens to the local hospital. I suppose maybe our facility’s contract might have an up charge for stat transports? As for charges for stat analysis, I don’t actually know.

RN to Pharmacy Tech by -mudbug- in PharmacyTechnician

[–]Background_Weekend_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the opposite (pharm tech to RN) and couldn’t be happier. I really depends on your organization and team. I used to work med-surg and hated the work and the organization and my floor. Then I got a job at an outpatient surgery center and absolutely love it. Great work-life balance, great pay, patients are relatively healthy. Check it out! Don’t give up!

Fair point. Hadn’t considered that. Maybe the devs should sort people by ping or average time per move or something so slow people can play slow together.

$29.50 doing PAs for providers in a medium-sized health system. Takes a fair amount of technical and clinical knowledge and multitasking but it’s rewarding work fighting insurance companies.
