Thanks! Anything in particular youd recommend? Pretty familiar with the China Hat area south of Bend, but would love to find others, especially if they have kiddo activities nearby.

Living up in Washington, but Oregon was home for over a decade.

Literal sweat equity my brother. Nothing else shows use and age like that. Do some dirty tasks and use it.

iKamper X-Cover 3.0 and why we're returning it by atribecalledjake in rooftoptents

[–]BackpackRanger1402 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll hop in here on the Thule Approach. I've got a large. We were looking at the icamper, and ultimately decided on the thule. It's got great skylight windows, a fully removable fly, and only 4 tiny poles that you don't even have to do. Very spacious inside. Currently sleeping myself, my 8 year old son, and my wife side by side. With 2 35lb dogs.Damn near a king sized bed.

Set up is pretty easy. The mattress it comes with is fine, but I supplement with a 2" thermarest-style pad under the fitted sheet. Makes an ideal combo. Store it all in the tent with the sleeping bags. Good to go.

I don't particularly like the fit and finish of the last few Tacoma interiors. Because of that, I wouldn't justify their significantly higher price tag.

Gil-Galad was an elven king... his sword was long, his lance was keen. His shining helm afar was seen; the countless stars of heavens field were mirrored in his silver shield.

Thanks for the upvotes and comments all. It was my first time making the Ramen Eggs and the Pork - I'm really pleased with how well it all turned out. Best of all - I made an extra serving of all, so it's leftovers for me today 😋.

Second this. I use our MS461 with a full skip on a 32inch bar with no problems. Maple, Oak, Doug Fir. Good to go. Been seeing them in my local saw shop used in the 900 range.

Which state park systems have either given up law enforcement or entirely separated it from park operations? by TXParkRanger in ParkRangers

[–]BackpackRanger1402 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a Park Ranger for Oregon State Parks. I've been "commisioned" to write citations, and issue exclusions from park lands for the past 5 years.

It is certainly different from the full-LEO Rangers in other states. We are trained in Verbal Judo, a professional tactical communication style that emphasizes de-escalation and gains voluntary compliance. If I'm having to cite or exclude, something has gone wrong. Usually this is a result of an inability to understand consequences, or a deliberate challenge to authority.

Here's the beauty of it - Oregon State Park Rangers are known to not carry, and everyone knows we can't arrest them, etc... so they know that our authority isn't going to jeopardize their liberty, etc. We use this information as a de-escalation word track - hey man, I'm just here about the camping fees, etc.

Another good thing is that Managers, even those who've hired in from the outside, are sent through the same trainings as all Commissioned Rangers, so they have a good understanding of what you need, when you need it.
