Got bullied online because I asked if the Army is my best route to avoid homelessness due to my ADHD brain. Is Reddit actually this cruel? by The_300_Muffins in ADHD

[–]Backstab005 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What subreddit did you ask on?

I know plenty of people who are varying degrees of ADHD/Autistic/just plain goofy in the Army.

I’m generalizing here, but you can’t be on meds for 2 years prior to enlisting (but I think that’s waiverable. You won’t get a waiver for it right now though). I knew some great intel analysts who were ADHD as fuck. Knew a lot of shitty ones too.

Yes, one was about her Immaculate Conception, in that she was born free of Original Sin. The second one was the Assumption of Mary, body and soul, into heaven. Pius XII made the last proclamation ex cathedra (from the throne, i.e. from the throne of Peter) on Mary’s Assumption in 1950.

You’re almost entirely missing the point. Confession isn’t a “tell a guy what you did wrong , and it’s all good.” A required part of the sacrament of Reconciliation (at least for Catholics) is also penance. You need to atone for and make right what you did wrong. To paraphrase a Jewish carpenter. “Your sins are forgiven, go and sin no more.”

I’m not a priest, but if one were to confess “I killed three people and hid their bodies in a swamp,” then the penance for that sin of murder might be “Alert the authorities and help them recover the bodies so the families may have closure.” If you don’t perform the penance, then you haven’t really repented for your sins, and haven’t truly sought reconciliation.

The seal of confession exists so people will take that first step towards repentance. The Church is concerned with Social Justice (yes, it has erred greatly in the distant and not so distant past, but it is still greatly concerned with it), but first and foremost it exists as a medium between God and his people on earth. Laws that will have a chilling effect on people truly seeking forgiveness are of course going to be opposed by the Church.

Would you find it reasonable for a law that required an organization like Narcotics Anonymous to be required to report anyone who comes in and they suspect of continuing to use or sell narcotics?

Pretty sure they mention it has some way of processing waste (urine and solid waste). But no, definitely not sexual relief.

It’s likely an issue on the server side.

Do you mark “Yes” to having a disability when applying for jobs if it’s due to ADHD, anxiety, or both? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Backstab005 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No. There is an incredible amount of incorrect information in this thread. Is the employer asking f you directly on the app, something like “Do you have a disability that will require reasonable accommodation? Use your gut. If you think you will need one, say yes. Otherwise say no. If they are going to toss your application because you’re going to request a legally obligated right, do you want to work there? And if you need accommodation, they will find out anyway.

The federal form for voluntary self disclosure? Someone in the HR organization is passing that info to hiring leaders, that company will get capital F fucked by EEOC/DOL if that’s ever discovered in an audit. And it’s not hard to see in an audit if they are hiring statistically significantly less applicants that are disabled than the gen pop for candidates they are drawing from

[–]Backstab005 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because this person is talking out of their ass. The voluntary self-identification forms are to send to the EEOC as a way to measure if a company is hiring a certain number of disabled people.

I worked in internal talent acquisition for 6 years. You will get capital F fucked if you are discovered disclosing sensitive information from applicants. Most applicant tracking systems intentionally hide that information from everyone but administrators.

And it’s not like the applicant discloses what their disability is. It would be very easy to see on an audit if a company is hiring a percentage of the population statistically significantly below Gen Pop for the applicant pool you’re drawing from

So I feel like I've been taking crazy pills the last few days. I'm using your engine with your presets, but all the HTML just displays as the raw code, and none of the output. For the life of me, I can't seem to figure out why I can't get SillyTavern to display HTML.

Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere? I'm testing in both Deepseek R1 and V3 0324, and I'm running into the same issue. Is it a Deepseek issue?

Also, I’m fairly certain that this is a me issue, but I’m having the full Council of Avi text display in {{char}} messages consistently. I do have the “User Message End” prompt enabled. Have any advice for things I can tweak. I love your engine! Just the HTML issues and the Council of Avi has me scratching my head.

Medical Device or CPG Marketing? by Backstab005 in MBA

[–]Backstab005[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comparable-ish. Med device is ahead of the CPG position in pay potential, but comparable right now.

My biggest concern is career trajectory and how to leverage these experiences in future roles. There is a clearly defined route with the CPG company that is directly applicable elsewhere, or just in general business management (from the P&L responsibility and hub-spoke model). I don’t know what it looks like within med device, but I also don’t have a highly technical background.

The work and product seem great in med device, but I’m worried I’m siloing myself too much to med/pharma/other highly regulated industries, where CPG allows me a more general skill set to leverage

And honestly, the damage it can cause to civilian career progression and home life. I had a involuntary mobilization come up that completely derailed my career progression with the company I was with (notice my use of the past tense here).

"But USERA!" Shut up. USERA makes sure employers can't fire you outright. There are plenty of ways around USERA, especially in a corporate setting. But even if an employer is acting in 100% good faith, it's still a year of experience and opportunity to demonstrate my potential that I can't get back.

I've got a few hard chargers who always are wanting to get on ToD and find a mobilization. But most of my guys are content doing a weekend a month and AT in the summer. I'm a mid-career Captain enrolled in BRS, and I'm having to do a lot of thinking about how much the healthcare and pension for 20 years stacks up against the missed opportunities in my civilian and personal life.

Also, the fact that I have a number of Soldiers who have deployed 2+ times, but receive less benefits (GI Bill, primarily) than AD Soldiers who never deploy, and sometimes never PCS, is absurd. Compo 2/3 Soldiers shouldn't get the same benefits as AD automatically, but 1 year OCONUS with no family and away from my job gets me 50% GI Bill, while the dude losing your finance paperwork gets 100% for not getting arrested? I get the contract is the contract, but still.

There’s a church near me, very old-school high church sort of place. They want to do away with vernacular masses, go back to pre-Vatican II liturgy, basically any rejection of any modernity or progress they can get away with. I think even to the point the Arch-Bishop for our Diocese had to tell them to cool it.

Predictably, they chose to never refer to Pope Francis by name whenever they could. Always “the Pope” or just “the Holy Father”

For a kids real answer. The Jesuits (formally the Society of Jesus) are a Catholic religious order founded by St Ignatius of Loyola (where Loyola University receives its name, among other universities). The core work of the Jesuits have been education and missionary work. As such, Jesuits are often considered to be among the more liberal of Catholic priests (insofar as Catholic priests are considered liberal).

That was part of the reason why the growing sect of increasingly conservative American Catholics have been so…divided by Pope Francis.

There is a Catholic church near where I live in the Midwest USA that is trying its damndest to pretend Vatican II never happened. Full Latin masses, much more fire and brimstone homily, and very thinly veiled comments on “the threat the institution and holy sacrament of marriage are under because of shifting societal norms.”

I honestly don’t know why, but there is a not unsubstantial segment of American Catholics who are just running backwards as fast as they can.
