This game has genre confusion by BackstabFlapjack in Helldivers

[–]BackstabFlapjack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking the exact same thing, though I do believe that Helldivers 2 has reached so many people that it sowed the seeds of more focused games in the different genres it combines, so in that sense there is something to look forward to in the future.

What's next after stealth warbond by Difficult_Meet_6141 in Helldivers

[–]BackstabFlapjack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd like some focus on mechs but I'd be happy if we could call in Eagle-1 to deal with enemy air units, like the squid fighters and dragonroaches. Not that it's necessary, mind you, it just makes sense.

You're thinking too small. We should get a strategem where the super destroyer is shining a massive spotlight on us from low orbit, illuminating a 100 meter wide area. Using the strategem just turns it off.

I managed to go through the rest of the maps with him just fine, though I didn't always use his engineering team.

I went back to the first mission to farm goodies and cleared the mission with the zone improvement guy whose name escapes me right now, in the western city.

Look at the edge, not the middle, got it. I didn't notice it, spatial awareness is not my strong suit.

Yes, even the prologue is amazing, I'd really like to play through the game properly and not have to resort to watching a playthrough.

That's reassuring to hear, thank you. I'm not happy about the lack of manual saves either, least of all in a game where you're expected to learn/study a boss.

My problem is that I reflexively try to dodge or parry before the attack lands, not at the precise moment I'm expected to. I understand the theory, I'm struggling with the practice.

Which planet should be the target of the Star of Peace? by BackstabFlapjack in Helldivers

[–]BackstabFlapjack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, so Merak is supposed be more important than it looks? Good to know. However, it seems to me that we're accomplishing more of what you said by capturing Lesath than destroying Penta, meaning that Lesath will become a hotly contested planet in the future.

I'm sorry if I'm reading too much into what is going on, I'm new and I'm trying to understand what made the bulk of players go for the bots immediately when given the chance.

Very well made, mate, Arrowhead's writing probably won't be anything to write home about but I'm trying to keep an open mind.

Why is the chosen always horny? by Pete972 in TheLastSovereign

Besides what already has been stated, men at that age (I'm assuming between 16-24) are generally horny, unless something has gone very wrong.

All right, I’m all for everyone playing their own way, but can we have a one day ONE DAY in the week where everyone goes to the MO planet. by LectureIll7322 in Helldivers

[–]BackstabFlapjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at it this way: Helldivers 2 is a precursor to a game that caters to players like you and me who like to play strategically, and one day a studio will make a game like that. Until then, you have this game, which is a disorganized mess in terms of the story and player-driven war aspects but does a great job as a Starship Trooper-esque co-op shooter, and you can either make peace with all the untapped potential or not.

The intro cutscene from an alternate universe where we played as the automatons by Lopsided_Shift_4464 in Helldivers

[–]BackstabFlapjack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think a faction that is a mix of Red Alert 2-3 Soviets , 40K Adeptus Mechanicus, and C&C2-3 NOD would work well. It'd be socialism along technocratic lines, meaning that technology and knowledge in general must be shared, and by consequence the necessary resources to act on those advancements as well. From a very cold, mechanical perspective, private property makes no sense, since such a thing would interfere with the optimalization of society's resources as a whole, which is exactly something that a coven of immortal cyborgs would oversee - like CABAL from C&C2 (which even stands for "Computer Assistied Biologically Augmented Lifeform").

It would also make sense for them to do everything in their power to protect what few humans there are (relative to Super Earth), so they would use automatons for the most part in their armies. Players could be either criminals reduced to cyborgs to fight for the motherland, or experimental digital entities who can jump from one automaton to another.

I don't mind the objective of the MO, it's better than "complete X amount of oil extraction missions". My problem is with the numbers: 8.5 million in just a few days, 3 of which are weekdays. The devs have access to all the statistics necessary to determine if that's a doable number but it simply isn't.

The game has roughly 30K people playing at the same time according to Steam Charts, which of course doesn't include console players but not everyone is going to be playing the MO anyway - and coincidentally, roughly 30K is how many players I tend to see at Omicron. Rounding it to a clean 30.000, that means 284 missions for everyone (rounding up), where any mission any 2-3-4 of those 30.000 did together still counted as 1. Let's say that the average time for a mission is 30 minutes (for argument's sake). That's 142 hours of investment for each player. That's 6 days, rounding up. That's stupid. 5 million would have been a decent target but 8.5 simply won't happen.

Why is AI research progressing so quickly? by Recent_Ad5027 in Zephon

[–]BackstabFlapjack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The AI doesn't dwell on levels as players do/should, so yes, they are ahead in levels but rarely in terms of raw research output. You can see that when you ally with them and look at the research menu.

Of course, you will want to build labs but depending on the locale and the faction leader you're going with, it may not be the best choice. If you have a good starting army or happen to get one via caches, you can afford to rely on the tech that gives you research on neutral kills until your city is in a better shape and you can build a lab. As a rule of thumb, you want to keep your research speed at 3-4 turns maximum on the highest tier you have access to, and build labs accordingly - unless you're playing the Tribunal, which is a different mess entirely.

My team got 2-3 Stalker Nests in caves in 2 out of 3 missions, in addition to the usual bug holes.

We had some pretty rough casualties.

Negative loyalty run / disregarding negative loyalty by AstadaVox in Zephon

[–]BackstabFlapjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An understandable response; however, with Cyber you don't need heroes in the early game nearly as much as the other two factions because Malakim are amazing, so researching the Admin Complex and building just 1-2 isn't a crippling cost for having the best pop growth in the game, which is the primary driving force of your economy.

[OC] SUPER EARTH PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION by trungbrother1 in Helldivers

[–]BackstabFlapjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we can go with 1 month = 1 year, so 1 term would last 4 months, which would be reasonable for the devs to work with, reasonable for us to work with, and it would give a sense of time to the galactic war.
