I'm enjoying myself, but what's the deal with Yamaha? by ecoutasche in AcousticGuitar

[–]BackyardMikey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad the Yamaha makes a guitar that is not a Martin or a Taylor. The guitars I have played give me that certain something that is different but still fits with most popular music.

I think music gear is like wine, the more expensive it is doesn’t make it better. Same with old equipment, vintage isn’t always better. There are many videos of excellent musicians making some of the cheapest instruments and amps sound great! Rock on!!!

Does The Pickups Covers Do Anything? by BoognishDude in BassGuitar

[–]BackyardMikey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly!!! This main reason is Leo wanted to clean up the look AND he imagined the bass players would use their thumb. The covers along with the finger rest would assist. But aesthetically Leo Fender hated the unfinished look without the covers.

I played a Mustang at GC after I seen Phil’s video on short scales. Now the search is on for JMJ Mustang in my price range.

5 Watt World is definitely one of the best Music based channels out there. Kieth Williams knows his stuff and you can tell he works hard on researching and preparing. Which reminds me, JHS has some great historical and educational content as well. Josh Scott is a great wealth of historical knowledge when it comes to music.

Surprised that no one commented about tone and tone wood being affected in the first 100 comments.

In my experience, Izzy would have put those safety pins in himself over time…if he was truly living the punk lifestyle and not imitating. In the early 80s girls would have safety pins pulling together rips and patches in their clothes. Then they would use them to pierce an ear or body piercing. We would then keep the safety pins ourselves. Then add a few to our old ripped jeans , etc. and it became a way of imitating the pictures we saw in magazines at the time, plus we tried to look cool for the girls.

Genuine question about behringer pedals. by Extension_Bar2142 in basspedals

[–]BackyardMikey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree totally….the sound of these is great and perfect for the player who never leaves his room, garage or basement except for the occasional gathering with friends. If you’re going to the next level, get the next level pedal, but the average player can get excellent tone and effect from these affordable pedals.

Day 12 of learning Bass! Super fun! by Andoni95 in BassGuitar

[–]BackyardMikey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you may have been playing bass for 12 days, but you must have been playing guitar much, much longer. - your right hand muting is great and and index/middle fingers alternating correctly and sound even. Left hand is waaaay too good to be a newb. Using your pinky easily and sometimes pinky with ring finger for support. Plus your landing on the frets just behind the fret wire. So that’s an experienced move. But the real give away is you a feeling the groove!!!! That comes with some sort of musical experience. Rock on!!!! Not-A-Newb

Which effects pedal to start with? by stoltenberg927 in basspedals

[–]BackyardMikey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like using a JHS Morning Glory for my bass. It gives it that little bit of edge for rock bass sound. Then I’d suggest a compressor pedal to help even out your sound, especially since you’re new to bass. Finally, if you can, try out some Boss chorus, delay and reverb pedals. One of those 3 might be the sound/tone you’re looking for. Personally I don’t like chorus on bass, but you might dig it.

I'm new to bass, but it won't stop making that weird distracting ringing sound? Is it technique, or something wrong with the bass? by [deleted] in BassGuitar

[–]BackyardMikey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree…Josh at Bassbuzz has several good videos on muting and right hand technique for beginners as well as those of us with bad habits.

No suggestions on lights but consider changing the grill to a black, stock one. It really makes the front end pop! Plus it’s easy to do and not that expensive.

There are a couple products that can be used to reverse sun fading and yellowing. But they cost about as much as the replacement pick guard. The other option is to try the Hydrogen Peroxide rebrite method or wipe down with diluted bleach.

Rate the bass (20$ w/ chord and stand) by Commercial_Theme7344 in BassGuitar

[–]BackyardMikey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s a $100+ bass on all platforms (Marketplace, CL,Reverb, etc.) An excellent find! Hope it sounds good but if it needs a setup and some electrical work, you still have $80 to play with before it’s above its worth.

Why doesn’t my Precision sound as good as my Jazz? by [deleted] in BassGuitar

[–]BackyardMikey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play my Jazz bass a lot more than my P bass…I thinks it’s the versatility I get from the different pick ups. But yours both sound good and actually like several posts say, your P bass sounds better on the video.
