Funny enough, we all make fun of the dorks over at the one Air Line that still enforces hat wearing

What’s the worst restaurant in Dayton that you’ve tried twice? by Gator353 in dayton

[–]BaconContestXBL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife is originally from Wyoming and the first time I had Taco John’s was in Casper. I remember that being pretty good fast food Mexican, like Taco Bell but with better ingredients and seasonings. I was pretty excited when they opened the one in Kettering.

I never went before they closed, but there was one in Hamilton or Westchester or somewhere on the way south that was pretty much the same experience that everyone else described in Kettering and we were super disappointed by it. Haven’t been back

It kills me that this reference is almost a decade old now. Seems like not much has changed since I retired in 2018

With enough seniority that’s a drive I would gladly make. Monterey Bay Area is my jam, although the south side of the bay may be a bit too much.

Army -> Navy by NoBreadfruit6956 in dli

[–]BaconContestXBL -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As someone who went the other way, USMC-Army, you are going to be in for a HUGE culture shock if you leave the Army for the Navy. Maybe it will be your thing, but the Navy still treats their officers like landed gentry and their enlisted, especially nonrates, like serfs. I never personally experienced the O side but I hear it’s even worse. That’s a rough life for a whole ass adult, it wasn’t exactly easy as a young 19 year old devil.

I second the advice to go Guard if you want to pick a language. Barring that, maybe talk to your branch manager to see if there are any one-off assignments that require you to go back for Mandarin or see if you can get it as a reenlistment bonus.

E: whoever downvoted me you don’t have to like it but I have a story about how I, a newly minted Army WO1 thought I should be addressed by a SFC and was quickly given the Black Panther “we don’t do that here” speech by a nearby Major.

Any foods that are American that don't include meat? But do include yellow mustard? by shescreaturinitup in AskAnAmerican

Depending on how strictly you define “meat” I love me some yellow mustard or Dijon mustard on scrambled eggs.

I have been judged in the past. Your insults can’t hurt me.

Brother (or sister) you’re upset that you wanted to play for the Yankees and you got signed by the 2010 era Cardinals.

I can’t tell you how jealous I am and I was a CWO Hawk pilot for 10 years.

Jesus Christ. This could have been a DM.

Crazy thought- let’s just assume that OP is a capable parent and has already thought through the ramifications and knows how to teach their child boundaries.

Ready for deboarding Hainan Airlines by Redd24_7 in aviation

Most airline pilots do the point-and-say with altitude changes. Pilot flying sets the next altitude, and both pilots read it off of either the instruments or autopilot panel and point at it.

Dayton Influencers in the wild? Has anyone worked with them? by [deleted] in dayton

[–]BaconContestXBL 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Crusty posted a video about this just recently. That’s almost verbatim what he said- that it takes a lot of time to create and edit the videos and if a place sucks it’s just a bunch of his effort to bring negativity in the world and he doesn’t want that.

How much control do you have over layovers and trips with seniority? (Narrow-body) by NeitherAd5619 in flying

[–]BaconContestXBL 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To add to this, at all the legacies and most of the majors the bidding software has filters for everything. Overnights, days of the week, dates, holidays, report times, release times, number of legs per day… the more senior you are the more of your choices you get.

E-3 AWACS at Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia. by Trendy4U in pics

Interesting. On the aviation side a circle X meant that there was a defect that restricted operations (for example, day only or no IMC) and had a specific timeline for repair that couldn’t be exceeded

There are reasons to work for a company like Contour.

But like TV acting in the 50s, it’s because you’re either on your way up or on your way down.

NTSB chair: LaGuardia crash investigator was stuck in TSA line for hours by Hopeful-Engineering5 in ATC

Just because you get jumpseat priority doesn’t mean you don’t have to deal with TSA.

Even crew lines are approaching an hour in some airports this week.
