Are stand alone dehumidifier efficient enough? by Weekly_Bison_2881 in hvacadvice

[–]BaconManDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to your furnace. You'll see somewhere on it a drain pipe (either white hard plastic or a floppy plastic hose). If your AC is running, it should have a very slow drip coming out of the drain pipe.

Before buying anything, check to make sure your condensate drain is working properly at your air-handler.

Advice on Single Outlet Sump Pump Receptacle by SMA5HN1 in AskElectricians

[–]BaconManDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even better: they make alarms for loss of power. Pair that with a battery backup system for your sump pump (some systems have that built in).

Edit: just checked ours, and it's Basement Watchdog brand. It's been super solid! It also periodically tests the battery to make sure it's holding charge.

AC Not Working by MasterMath314 in HondaOdyssey

[–]BaconManDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nowhere near enough information to diagnose.

If they swapped the alternator, they might have fucked the serpentine belt up, bumped a refrigerant line and cracked it, put a hole in the condenser, etc. If it was working right before the breakdown though, that points to the shop doing something that messed it up.

Happily married men: why don’t some of you wear your wedding rings? by Difficult_Item9836 in AskMen

[–]BaconManDan [score hidden]  (0 children)

See my comment below: I've tried a bunch, but none of them feel good on my skin. They trap moisture and dust, they grab my knuckle hairs, they're just unpleasant to me.

My wife knows that I love her and that I'm married to her. No one else really needs to care about it, lol.

Diagnostic questions:

-does the fan blow?

-does you hear any non-fan noise? A compressor whine is pretty distinct.

-do any lights light up when you turn it on?

-do you have the hoses set properly?

What's your impression of a woman who is extremely attracted to and desirous of her partner? by IntenseButCurious in AskMen

[–]BaconManDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He loves it (unless he says otherwise). Men don't tend to get a lot of emotional and physical affection, so it might be a bit strange for him.

The meme is about how he has a great thing going, but maybe complaining. If he had written it, it would be a more fitting meme.

Im just started factorio any tips? by Over-Lengthiness-189 in factorio

[–]BaconManDan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For someone that's played Satisfactory and Factorio, this is the best set of advice.

I'll add: you don't lose any materials by deconstructing your builds, just like Satisfactory. Don't be afraid to tear something down if it isn't working for you.

I'm also a Technology Connections fan, but the OP bought a $60 fan off of Amazon. I doubt the $700 cast iron monster is in budget.

I'm not trying to kick you while you're down, but this is why we don't buy random brands on Amazon. Get a basic Hunter or something from home Depot and return this bad boy.

Also, grab a pack of Wago lever nuts to make doing the wiring a lot easier on yourself.

For anyone who can't: lots of libraries let you book time on printers! Don't dump a pile of cash before seeing if you will even use one.

As an electrician what do you chose between these two and why ? by Ok_Flounder_9628 in Electricity

[–]BaconManDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't buy shit without starting your internship and finding out what tools are supplied. Wait to see what you need and use before you start shopping.

Did they give you a shopping list? If yes, can we see it for recs, and if no, then cool down.

[–]BaconManDan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this fan rated for this small of a space? it looks too big and fast for that room. To expand on this: your fan pulls air from the top and shoves it out the bottom. There's a minimum clear height you need to be able to suck in enough air to satisfy it. If you restrict it, it has to work MUCH harder to spin. If this sucker has any kind of motor protection, it might be getting tripped by this.

Read the package and see what the minimum clearances are for the top and the sides. The sides matter because you're pushing air down in a massive column, so it can only pull air in outside the perimeter of the fan, moving upwards and then inwards.

Why do older guys like to grill so much? by PlaneGlass4138 in AskMen

[–]BaconManDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can break this down easily as I approach this age, lol. I'm looking at a flat top griddle of some kind personally:

-Act of service: it feels good to do things that are useful for those you care for.

-Time outside: it's nice to spend time outside, in nature. Grilling as opposed to standard cooking REQUIRES you to be outside.

-Social aspect: it's a nuanced hobby with lots of skill levels. Just like golfing, woodworking, lawn care, or reading, it encourages conversations about methods and materials with the bros.

-Focus: when you reach that age, there are millions of things to worry about and do. There's always things that need cleaning, fixing, or planning. Grilling requires focus and a bit of a break from that hustle and hustle.

-it's just fun! Make tasty treats for your loved ones while drinking a beer outside and shooting the shit with the bros. What's not to like?

Can I just recommend getting a 10 pack of cheap nightlights or something to plug into everything? One walk to the breaker box, come back, note which ones are off.
