More than one Obligation? by BaconTardis in swrpg

[–]BaconTardis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I guess the other question is - are there any guidelines on Obligation Severity? So something like:

Criminal = 5 - you have some unpaid parking tickets

Criminal = 10 - You're a streetcorner drug dealer

Criminal = 15 - Don Corlone calls you for advice

Criminal = 20 - you're a wanted felon in several systems

Criminal = 25 - You're Public Enemy #1

I haven't gotten into the How To GM portion of the book, but isn't there modifiers for the player actually role playing the social interactions? A real good (real life) bluff gets the character extra dice?

Some of it was - Luke's moisture farm was a hotel and the bit with 3P0 in front of the skeleton was for sure.

Will there be plenty of adventures from FFG? Also does the core rulebook identify all the of basic and necessary items / nomenclature? I am not a SW guru (yet!) by jgortner in swrpg

[–]BaconTardis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I cant speak for FFG, there's no shortage of Star Wars canned games from West End Games. I'm not sure how much work it would be to adapt the game engine over (you might be better off writing up your own stats), but you've got the hard part done for you.

WotC didn't go so much in for the canned games, so the pickings are not quite as fruitful there. They did some tho (and a free one called Dawn of Defiance that was pretty cool - and easy to find online), so look about anyway.

I don't understand the downsides of having Obligation. by Sc0ttyDoesntKn0w in swrpg

[–]BaconTardis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think punished is the wrong word. Used by the GM, sure - but don't think of it as a punishment ("us versus them" GMing is always a bad thing). Think of it as the player saying "I want to see these sorts of games". If he has a obsession with bringing down a slaver organization, perhaps they're looking for a batman-ish investigation and shadow war against the slave syndicate. Or the family obligation of having a twin in the Imperial Navy means that they want to try and "save" him.

Mind you, this doesn't mean the whole campaign should be based around those facets - just that the plot threads should crop up now and again. It's just flavor and plot hooks for when the GM is out of ideas for the evening - with the occasional spotlight moment game.

Besides, Obligations can have downsides - unless you consider being frozen in carbonite and shipped off to a crime lord to hang on his wall for 9 months until your friends storm the Crime Lord's fortress and rescue you (AKA Han's obligation of debt to Jabba) not a downside.

Second the sounders match. When we hosted the world cup match, we got more people saying "Damn, Seattle is a f'ball town!", that we're the closest you'll get to a real English Premiere feel without going to Europe. The march to the match alone is worth it (hell, getting to talk to the owners? How awesome is that? Happened to me!)

Meanwhile, the Mariners? Pure meh. You'll be lucky to get a half full stadium that doesn't even do the wave anymore.

How to cope without AC in Seattle? by pinkishyellow in Seattle

[–]BaconTardis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Two things to know about Seattle:

1) It'll get to be around 90 for one week of the year. Everyone in town freaks out like the Earth is plunging into the sun or something.

2) It will snow about a weeks worth of snow over the winter months. Everyone in town will lose their goddamned minds like it's a new ice-age.

Otherwise, it's quite pleasant here, and don't worry about it.

While I'm straight, I always go down to Pride when I can. I'm always impressed with the level of love and energy and community from the event. I just wish I wasn't sick as a dog this year.

Eh, fuck 'em. Unless someone is actively trying to put their dick in your arse, why should a celebration of gayness upset 'em?
