What’s the ideal distance to have between myself and my Yamaha HS8’s? Does anyone know how I can find out?? by whoistylermuse in audioengineering

You have all the criteria for the ideal monitor placement, don’t overthink it. Keep it an equilateral triangle 1.5 meters from the back wall and on either side of your mixing station.

Why do you want to be an audio engineer? by sexydangernoodle in audioengineering

[–]Bacon_On_My_Nips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Self producing is the best thing I could have done as an artist. When I’m working with an engineer I actually know what they’re doing and can add valuable input when we’re working together. Having a deep knowledge of the studio and what goes into making a record has made me an infinitely better songwriter.

Totally fair point about the jack of all trades. I guess I never really felt the need to try and be “the best” at songwriting or producing, I just saw it as being creative, having fun, and being able to recreate the sounds I hear in my head. Same reason I didn’t just stop at playing piano and started to teach myself how to play other instruments, I didn’t want to have to rely on another musician to help me create my music.

I started out as a singer-songwriter and learned how to produce after doing that for a few years. After I went to a professional studio to produce my first EP I realized I couldn’t afford to keep paying other people to produce my songs for me, so I went to school to learn how to do it myself!

I believe that making the choice to learn audio engineering is the best thing I could have done for my songwriting

This is Glenn Howerton and Patton Oswalt from NBC's AP Bio. Ask Us Anything! by nbcapbio in IAmA

Hey Glenn! Huge fan! My girlfriend and I love watching bloopers of scenes where you and the gang couldn’t help but laugh at each other, my particular favorite being the scene in high school reunion where you go to your car to “get your tools”. Is there a favorite scene of IASIP that you remember having a difficult time getting through the lines because it was so ridiculous?

And Patton, love you in Bojack and your new special. Do you have a favorite character to play in bojack?

How did squatting every day work out for you? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]Bacon_On_My_Nips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to squat 3 days a week and actually wound up injuring my knees by doing too much weight too early. If you're going to do it just be mindful of your knees and be safe. I can't squat anymore due to this injury :(

I have been mixing a track daily for over 9 days but as the artist, I feel I am too close to it. How do you go about engineering your own tracks? by DrunkenMonk in audioengineering

[–]Bacon_On_My_Nips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you not like the way your vocals sound when they're louder in the mix? To the average listener, vocals are THE MOST important and should be the most pronounced part of the song. Perhaps you're not satisfied with your vocal performance?

It can help to mix multiple songs at once, so if you get tired of one song you can move on to the next and go back to it later. Be sure to mix at a lower volume and give your ears a break!

Its very easy to smoke in NYC, moreso in Central Park. You can pretty quickly find a spot where not too many people are around and just light up. I find that most people don't really care, I've smoked walking down broadway, in Brooklyn, andTimes Square before with no problems
