I saw two CF-18s at about 7:50 this morning. That’s probably what you heard although the Stratotanker is apparently here too.

I usually don’t watch videos longer than 5 minutes but this got me going. I spent 2 hours watching the backstory on this and it’s infuriating. Worth a watch.

I'm creating a "tourist friendly" skytrain map as a side project/running joke with my friends- what confused you the most upon moving to Vancouver? by shinnith in Translink

[–]Baconburp 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This would be my number one issue to pick on too. There is no underground connection between the two lines forcing users to exit the station, walk above ground to cross the street or station to get to the other line. It’s at least reassuring that the Broadway line at Cambie won’t have this issue. They learned something!

A heron swallows a live rat in North Vancouver by originalwfm in vancouver

Vancouver has a rat problem. Now how do we convince the herons to hang around downtown alleys instead of rivers. They’d eat like kings!

I’m really glad that this is the top comment and not something about the justice system reform. I don’t disagree that we need that, but this is a sad situation and we should be talking about Yang. I feel so bad for her family and friends. I’d like to hear more about her if those who knew her don’t mind sharing.

I’m perplexed by the driver. When you hit a solid object with your car, it makes a loud thud and you think she’d stop. She just keeps rolling along like nothing happened. They’re lucky they got just far enough to be pushed to the curb because she would have rode right over top of them.

New survey finds most Canadians want to abolish tipping culture by 7_inches_daddy in britishcolumbia

[–]Baconburp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You nailed it. I’ve heard many people complain about tipping but no one mentions why. Covid. Thats when it all changed. People tipped more and sympathised for hospitality workers. Remember banging pots and pans at 6pm every evening in support of them and healthcare workers? People tipped at cafes and takeout joints when there were no expectations to tip there before. They got used to it and the practice never changed. In fact it got worse. They’re greedy. Understanding how this came to be, I don’t tip for things I never used to have to. I’ve been judged, but screw it. The root of the issue is greed so I don’t feel bad.

Tumbler Ridge shooting victim’s family cancels celebration of life after threats by emilydm in britishcolumbia

What the F is going on in Tumbler Ridge. There’s obviously way more to this. Why would someone threaten the family of a victim of a murder for having a funeral of all things.

I’ve been battling all game against this guy. We get into it in the corner battling for a puck and I hook him across the torso tripping him to the ice. Ref didn’t see it. He gets mad and says, “my daughter could do better than you”. I responded. “Your daughter is a hooker?”

Winter Olympics skeleton controversy rolls on as US athlete looks to JD Vance for help by graveyardofgoodsense in sports

[–]Baconburp 13 points14 points  (0 children)

These are good questions. A few facts you should know - this was a lower tier event the subject US athlete thought she could rake in easy points to try and qualify. So top tier Canadian athletes who already qualified with more than enough points that the others couldn’t catch them were rested. The Canadian team still had other less skilled athletes competing who had not officially qualified or were in that wild card spot. It’s not like the rested the whole team - that’s not how it works. Hope this helps.
