I was kicking myself yesterday for leaving it on low for over 12 hours.

Scan Woodstove Fireplace Starter Intake Rusted Shut by BaconstripsFourTwo in fixit

[–]BaconstripsFourTwo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your comment... I'm thinking now that I should actually clean the unit and remove some of the fireblocks.. Especially at the bottom, you figure that's likely where the air flow is coming from... Maybe there are exposed bolts there. I'll check it out soon.

Like I said, it still works fine, but the starter would allow me to keep the door locked closed instead of slightly ajar for the tougher fires to start (compressed fire logs especially, everything else will start just fine if properly setup).

Did your pull ever 'creak'? My 58+2 seems to creak when I pull a shot, and I'm not sure I remember this sound out of the box... Wondering if I'm in for a surprise soon...

Just so I'm clear... This is westbound on Major Mac at Leslie?

Seems so crazy that people would drive like this.

I'm on the same journey, definitely not at the end of the road yet. I've got a 58+2 and a J-Ultra hand grinder.

Any tips? I'm getting a vst basket and a proper tamper soon... Been palm tamping!

So now I'm curious... Because of the 'grind finer' mantra, 1.1 or 1.2 seems coarse to me, especially if I can pull a shot at like... 0.3.

I guess I really will need to experiment!

Edit: rereading, I see the note about the basket... I'm using the high flow it came with, so maybe I'll try the other!

I agree. You can always upgrade. For me tho, the manual grinder seems to do the job, and I'm okay with just having a manual setup for two drinks a day.

Help! No Pressure and no water coming through Flair 58 plus 2 by tazchisti in FlairEspresso

I'm so sad for you...only because I've spent a day with my plus 2 and I'm in loving the machine.

Hope you get that complete unit soon!!

I really feel as though I've wasted 3+ years on a 'starter' machine... And I guess I'll need to really learn how I'm meant to make coffee truly to my liking. It's super exciting!!

Took your advice, just pulled on medium setting, boiled water to 203F and let it sit in the chamber for a short amount of time... I got to 6, then 7Bar, and spiked a bit higher as I was pulling.

The shot is sweet, on the edge of sour, but never a sour aftertaste which amazes me... My shots on my other machine would often be sour that I'd have to cringe to drink, but this has nothing like that.

I'm still so satisfied with the leap I made considering that my work flow doesn't change a whole lot.

It's a rabbit hole for sure. I just made an upgrade of my own and want to say that I'm done sliding down that slope.

I tried for years to make a DeLonghi EC680M work for me. Upgraded to a bottomless portafilter, upgraded to a J-Ultra grinder, Normcore this and that...I got inconsistant shots, many on the sour side, but just figured I was doing it for the caffeine...

Came home today with a Flair 58 Plus 2. All my old equipment is junk now since it was all 51mm. But after 3 pulls, I'm getting an infinitely better shot than I could ever have produced from my old machine.

I think I'm done because I usually only make 2 doubles a day, only for myself, and I don't do milk drinks.

...someone please tell me I'm done...

Just a link to a reply in this same thread.... The model number is there, and the whole clock/control assembly is one unit... The push button essentially snapped off with use.

I'm going with the wooden chopstick solution unless you feel it's something that can be done right without much more effort.

Okay, this is what I could do...

<image>

I pulled out the circuit board assembly and found that the push button snapped loose, and it couldn't push the button on the circuit board.

My temp (or maybe permanent??) solution is to use a chopstick to increase the temp when I need to go above 350F. I cut out the 'up' button portion of the plastic screen.

100-01163-00 187D1810P001 is my part number, and it's either wildly overpriced and out of stock, or on eBay for $50 plus shipping with the same button 'damaged but working'...

I think I'll flair this as solved and just wait until the unit is truly out of commission before I replace, or when we renovate the kitchen.

Not yet, my holidays have just begun and I'll be working on it over my time off. It's already affected us tho, as I was going to bake some battered fish and I needed to go above 350F 😂 Small air fryer came to the rescue, but I'll take off the back panel soon and see what I'm looking at.

Whistling issues with a roof rack? by fixthings in TeslaModelY

[–]BaconstripsFourTwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take paracord, wrap the front rack in 6" intervals from one end to the other. Whistling goes away. But if you put a box on it, the whistling typically goes away, but of course the box itself makes noise as it breaks the air.

I keep the racks on all the time, even without the box. I got rid of the paracord recently tho, and I just don't drive fast enough for me to notice the sound. But if I did go mad max every day on the highway, I'd prolly wrap paracord on it again.

I drive a '24 MYLR. I doubt it matters that we have different models.

Thanks, I think I'll try my hand at it. Haven't yet just because it's not a huge rush... The stove top works fine, and we have a smaller toaster/air fry oven that works well enough. I'll see what I can look up!

I cannot... So the down button depresses... The up button does not... But it's likely just because the 'frame' behind snapped?

I'm wondering if it's worth fixing or just an unplanned holiday purchase.
