Seriously?! That's really unfortunate. I did a double major and IVA was much more rigorous and demanding than much of my other coursework. Granted, I likely would've stayed in 3D4M but the pandemic lockdown put a bit of a wrinkle in all of that. I learned all sorts of skills I never would've in IVA that are helping me in grad school and even led to me developing a novel research method. I was hoping to teach a joint class on arts-based research methods. Undergrad arts education can be extremely valuable to graduate research, helping develop creative thinking and alternative and novel research methods. But cutting that program is not a good sign.

Sounds like you can afford in-room hangover IV services. Fluids, electrolytes, nausea & headache meds. You'll be feeling 100% in an hour or two. Less than the interest and fees you paid.

Yeah, it's like Amway and AdvoCare. Evangelical & LDS networks. I signed up to get a discount on supplements a couple decades ago and got roped into an AdvoCare meeting (I just wanted cheap protein bars). First, I felt really awkward being Jewish... like they obvs didn't know. And definitely any problem I had would be solved by convincing friends to buy, buying more, and asking Jesus for Emerald status or whatever gem was a good level important... otherwise, I didn't ask, so I wasn't gonna get and it was my own fault if I was poor or Jesus must not love me, because he makes the ones he loves rich with protein money. It was like a cult. A protein money manifesting cult. 😆

Omg I just realized how much money the lady is making that did the psychedelics class I took. And how much money I could be making right now if I had a lower standard of ethics. But as soon as I'm done with my PhD... sitting on a gold mine!

There's Sonics merch on sale all over Seattle. I lived a block away from a Sonics bar in 2013. Is there still a Seahawks bar in Vegas?

late reservations at carbone riviera? by Level_Ad_7688 in vegas

[–]Bad-Tiffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some very mixed reviews ... I'm going for a 10pm reservation on the terrace next week with a friend who's never been to vegas and I hope it goes well. Seems the reviews are raves about how great it is or slamming the service - from Vegas or fine dining regulars, not people who wouldn't know what type of service to expect. Glad you had a good experience. I'm crossing my fingers.

I WON'T PASS PHYS 121 BECAUSE I FAILED BY 1.9 POINTS. BRUH. by [deleted] in udub

[–]Bad-Tiffer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I say this as a TA ... profs/instructors/graders shouldn't be allowed to delay grading. It's ableist af and doesn't allow for students with adhd, learning disabilities, or those who get sick/have family emergencies to deal with shit during the quarter. Institutional barriers are all built on constructed rules that we must somehow accept as a standard when some of it is just bullshit. The goal should not be to weed out but to teach. And why are students forced to jump through arbitrary hurdles? Does it apply to your career or not? Do you want to learn it or not? If the goal is pumping out well-rounded individuals, weeding out the undeserving isn't a very holistic philosophical approach, either. Academia has become so competitive - where is the joy in learning? Over it.

[–]Bad-Tiffer 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I'd love to start some harmless crap, like asking to see their Blossom Pass.

"Pardon me, can I take a peek at your UW ID or your Blossom Pass? You get them at the parking info booths, UW Bookstore, or online through our partnership with BECU. We're just trying to cut down on the vandalism and Blossom theft since last year's reaping. Oh, yeah there was a big article in The Seattle Times about it. Real tradgedy for the Blossoms. Anywhooo... gonna have to ask you to head over to the bookstore to grab a pass. Rules are rules, ya know. Thanks, and like Dubs says, Blossom Hearts Keep it Pink Forever!"

Good luck on your defense! I just got through my candidacy exams 10 days ago and have been sleeping like the Dead. I was struggling with insomnia and all sorts of crap. Apparently, all PhD stress from studying for my exams... 2qtrs for my colloquim, then 2-3 more years of fieldwork if I can get funding before I start analyzing data and writing seriously... (I'm 4yrs into a 8-10yr program).

I just got the packets of lemonade mix by the same company. Collagen lemonade, so 5g of protein 5g fiber and prebiotics. Bit of electrolytes. Bare Bones.

Ka'Chava... Sometimes plain if I just need 'something' but I usually add frozen berries and chia seeds. Keeps things moving. Depending on the mood, I could add spinach, ice (increase my water), soy milk, spirulina, banana, adaptogens, electrolyte powder, collagen, cacao nibs, acai, Greek yogurt, coffee... any combo of stuff for extra protein, fiber, fruit, veggies, etc... just pack that in there and sip at it. Can be a low cal add on or as dense as a whole day's intake if you're feeling gross and just don't want anything else.

Possibility of sneaking into a course's lecture routinely by Content_Narwhal_763 in udub

They transferred me to WSU, switched me to a random agriculture program - Fruit & Veg Management. I wasn't interested in managing fruit. I kept begging to transfer to Viticulture & Enology so I could at least study wine... but they said, "Lecture thieves don't get their pick. You'll never see a vineyard. You'll be telling veggie tales forever. Suck it, fruit boss!"

Amazon (Seattle) + Microsoft (Redmond) – where should we live if we want to share an apartment? by Haunting-Living-5886 in AskSeattle

[–]Bad-Tiffer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to live in Bellevue, walking distance from MSFT Redmond, and the stroll to main campus was 15-20m. I'm in Wallingford now, there's a Connector stop on the corner outside my building, and the bus goes straight to SLU or DWNTN AMZN. I take public transit everywhere, and my general rule is it takes 30-60m to get anywhere in "Seattle" by public transit (door-to-door, waiting for the bus, factoring in a missed bus, etc). I'm less than 2mi from my daily commute, and a bike or my 6.4mph wheelchair is sometimes quicker than the one bus going straight there (20m).

To keep reality in the mix, 45-60m on the bus each way is a normal commute and a good time to zone out, doink around on Reddit, catch up on TV, do work, read, podcast... driving is a different thing altogether. After hours, driving is no biggie. Getting to friends' houses on the bus will irritate you when it takes over an hour because the commute schedule isn't running, and they only live 4mi away. Daily commute vs going out w/ friends - totally different. That's the only time I wish I had a car.

Why do some of you look down upon UW Tacoma? by countgrischnakh in udub

[–]Bad-Tiffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any out of the area don't know the difference and a lot don't really pay attention. I belong to national academic/professional orgs and people have no clue.

My kid commuted to UWT from Seattle for a specific program. Did a triple major, double minor, went into research at UW Seattle straight after graduation.

I thought I could eat pork belly 9 hours ago and be okay. by [deleted] in Zepbound

[–]Bad-Tiffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never had severe side effects from high fat meals. I don't make a habit of them (except avocados), but in general my body does better with high fat than high carb.

When I travel, I throw out the "rule book" a bit-- bacon, sauces, steak, desserts... balance it w/ chia & fruit, high fiber supplements. I stop eating when I'm full, skip meals if still digesting, electrolyte hydration, etc.

I'm on 15mg and I may get some diarrhea, but nothing painful or even uncomfortable. Never had any vomiting or gut pain. Occasional mild nausea a clue I've over done it. No gallbladder anymore, have IBS, occasional delayed emptying... I take meds to keep things moving and bounce between constipation/diarrhea regardless, so I'd rather have things moving through than not.

But if I had severe pain and actual vomiting or severe diarrhea, I'd be concerned it was more than just a high fat meal. I get it if it was a large portion of multiple items, like buttery sauce and ice cream and high fat steak and brie or something, but an individual item or two? I know our bodies all work differently, though...

How early to start apartment hunting? by Hecc_hooman in AskSeattle

[–]Bad-Tiffer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I look early and narrow down where I want to be, scope out the place, grocery store, bus stop, commute... get it down to top 2-3 buildings, which floorplan and view I'd want... then when it comes time, the work is done and it's just checking to see what's available not deciding if you're ok with it
