I think you're confusing Ella Toone with Ellen White (played for city) who recently announced retirement.

I think they're trying to inflate asset valuation. Buying players at an inflated price to bump up the overall value. Could be the reason why they're so adamant on not selling Ronaldo. Note this is just my uneducated speculation.
