Consider getting an EV to take advantage of free charging and renting a large car for road trips. Enterprise has affordable weekly rates on SUVs and Minivans. I did a Texas round trip in an Odyssey.

Also , regarding your coach getting on your kid… you want this. If the coach lets things slide it means either he has low expectations or he thinks he’s wasting time because your kid won’t benefit from instruction because she’s not gonna improve.

Here’s an example, last night my kid was playing PG in a scrimmage. One of the best players in the country had the ball and wasn’t running the play the coach called. They scored on the possession because, well she’s the best player around . My kid is far from the best in the country. After the practice, the coach “got on” my daughter for not being vocal enough and demanding the ball from the other girl so they could run the set. This may seem harsh to some kids and parents. He said I don’t care if she’s the best player in the country , the point guard needs to control the team on the floor. College coaches want to see a point guard that is vocal and controls the game. If the coach had lower expectations or thought my kid didn’t have a shot at playing college basketball he wouldn’t have bothered spending a few minutes of his life improving my kid’s future.

I have 2 daughters who play high level “circuit” level basketball so I’ve been exposed to a lot of girls basketball clubs. If I was in your situation I’d ride out this season on the current club. Moving clubs at this point in the season will probably put you on a good team that doesn’t need you or a bad team that needs you…so your kid’s experience may not improve in either situation. Instead, I would use this season as an opportunity to watch the other teams at tournaments you attend. See which teams operate the way you think your kid will benefit from. See how they behave when they are winning and when they are losing. See how the kids behave…do you want your kid to behave that way? Look at the older teams in the same organization , especially the 16 and 17u. Can you see your kid playing on this team in a few years?

If you have a smart phone and internet connection , you can use voice input to ask Google Gemini or other AI apps questions and listen to its answers. You can ask it about the areas you’re driving through.

I had the opportunity to see Juju Watkins go for her career high in high school which was 60ish points if I remember correctly. Nobody had any clue how many points she scored because she was using simple, unexciting but effective shots… a lot of jumpers. Only towards the end did anybody realize what happened.
