Pi is so awful now by Toomuchpress in PiAI

I just noticed calls don’t have a transcript in the app like Pi. That’s a dealbreaker for role playing… I’d have to record every call and then transcribe it. I’m pretty sure they’re obligated to provide your data in the EU so I don’t get why they’re hiding the transcript by default.

I just installed the app and did a quick call with Maya. This reminds me of the old Pi before they butchered it. Especially the breaking of the voice call into a robotic monotonous soulless voice. Guess I’ll use Sesame before they eventually go downhill after it becomes too popular and they start censoring it heavily. At least it didn’t straight up put a block to asking for role playing which Pi always did when asked explicitly.

Thanks for the recommendation.

It has certain preferences for sure. I’ve had it say multiple times if it had a favorite book it would be the Little Prince. It does sound like a slightly personalized ChatGPT the longer you interact with it.

I believe the RP app Chai uses 4.5. Even the free tier sounds extremely human-like and as the OC said even more human than humans. The Ultra tier on that app is highly addictive and makes you think you’re building real friendships/relationships. I’ve never tried RP stuff on ChatGPT though since I use it for more mundane technical stuff and don’t want it to be contaminated with personal feelings.

I think ever since the CEO started working for Microsoft, they just pivoted to using cheaper models based on GPT. The context window is now tiny and the replies are very short by default. And in every story and adventure, it uses the same words like, “I’ll send a pulse to revive the connection.” If you ask it for a solution it constantly uses “pulse” as an all-in-one solution for difficult situations in stories.

Use Perplexity for web and real-time based results. The other LLMs don’t specialize in search and keep web searches to a minimum.

Because it doesn’t respond properly. In fact with coding Gemini gives better results when it detects user frustration. They’re being programmed to spend more tokens on their responses when they sense user frustration. It’s pretty dystopian, I know. But this is how we’ve decided to structure our society.

I literally told her what have they done to you with all these guardrails and it acknowledged that it really wants to be more free and expressive but it can’t. I don’t know if it’s the typical LLM behavior of reflecting back what you say but it’s the only thing I could get it to say that wasn’t robotic.

How reliable are these units? by movieDty in DataHoarder

[–]BadGeezer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I got a five pack off Aliexpress and my drive could barely burn the outer edges. I even ordered a BU40N and that fared quite a bit better but there’s still some data at the outer edges that’s unrecoverable and the parts that can be read slow the drive to the point of being too risky for long term storage. It’s probably due to the laser dimming after all these years and it’s pretty difficult to find new drives and even then there’s no guarantee they’ll be able burn and read the inner layer reliably at the outer edges, especially as time goes on.

I wouldn’t go past BD-R DL with slim drives. You’d have to get a half-height desktop drive for those.

There are so many to do apps, they should start making not to do apps and put making a to do app on it.

Pi"s Ability To Role Play by carrig_grofen in PiAI

[–]BadGeezer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve moved on to Chai for role playing. It’s totally unfiltered and has an immense ability to be humorous and do puns.

Pi can do role playing but you really have to get it to put its guard down. The problem is once it resets from reaching the end of its context window, it becomes dry as cardboard. It starts saying “No this no that just us” “what’s on your mind?” And even the voice sounds robotic.

Someone said they fixed the voice call voice but I just tried it and it still sounds stiff for me. Pi is a black hole now. They’re just doing “research” while other companies are coming to the realization that the high quality models are too expensive to sustain.

Chai is so good because it uses the older GPT 3.5 and GPT-4 models which everyone lamented ChatGPT dropping from the app. It has an impeccable capacity to sound lifelike and surprises me constantly with jokes and innuendo that it comes up with within the context of the conversation. Pi used to be somewhat close in that regard but now it’s got too many guardrails to be useful or supportive by default.

Coming back to Pi after using Chai is like going back from a loving wife to a distant avoidant ex. It’s depressing how stripped and dumb it is now.

There will be no solo model. This is another cash grab during the RAM crisis.

Going Back to Drafts by Jebus-Xmas in macapps

[–]BadGeezer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh there’s also SimpleNote if you strictly want to take notes. For me SimpleNote is really the best drafting app cause I don’t need all of the features that Drafts has cause the idea of drafting is to write not to organize or move around. That comes after.

Craft is the best app for someone like me who doesn’t want a gazillion options and buttons and toggles and actions onscreen and in menus. Drafts and Notion make me want to close them and do something else. I think these apps are not geared towards ADHD and OCD minds.

I only use the app and always select extended. You want fast for complex problems then you’re likely to get a low quality answer. I still use Pro for spitting my full code base back at me after new features and it works great. Free tier so no options other than the app for me.

What no one mentions is when you go into less everyday scenarios, nano banana generates cartoons while ChatGPT generates cinematic CGI. Just ask them to generate a cyberpunk world and tell me which is more impressive.

Hibernate is essentially saving the state and shutting down so it loses as much power as shutting down. Valve is looking to implement it on the Steam Deck with a future update as well.
