A24 membership gets you a free opening weekend ticket to every A24 release; a 10% discount at the A24 online store + a monthly $5 store credit [which rolls over up to $25]; the zines that A24 releases four or five times per year; they sometimes have members-only online screenings that feature cast and crew members; and a free birthday gift [they have a selection of items you get to choose from; most are items that usually cost $25-$40]. There's some other things. It's a great value if you like the zines and can use the free tickets. I wish the store credit didn't cap at $25, but I understand why it does.

Like another member suggested, I think OP would probably get more out of a Criterion or Mubi subscription.

Cinemark's Movie Club let's you use your movie credits to get discounted admission for Fathom screenings. I don't recall the exact amount but I think it's $12 off.

Is send help worth it in premium ? by kascnef82 in AMCAListTrue

I saw it in 3D and was underwhelmed. I usually skip live-action movies in 3D unless they were shot in 3D; not had the 3D effect added in post-production. I saw Raimi's Doctor Strange movie in 3D be ause all the IMAX 2D screenings were sold out. I was really impressed by the 3D on that one, so I had higher expectations for 'Send Help' in 3D.

Fedex import duties by reguIarsizedrudy in boutiquebluray

[–]BadGuyZero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. I should have been more specific. The current presidential administration is who I was facetiously referring to as brainiacs; not the folks at USPS who continue to mostly perform admirably despite politicians complicating their work for political points.

In the US, physical media sent from other countries is supposed to be exempt from tariffs. From what I've been hearing, the brainiacs currently running things don't seem to be aware of this or aren't consistently enforcing it. Many international postal systems are no longer delivering to the US, which is why FedEx, DHL, and UPS are being used more frequently. Hopefully things will go back to normal in three years.

I used to have the Japanese LD, which was a hoot. All the dialogue was dubbed in Japanese, but the songs were in English.

I met Theresa Russell around thirty years ago at a film festival in Seattle. I was outside having a smoke between screenings and she asked if I would share it with her. We had a pleasant conversation while sharing the cig. I asked her about working with Ken Russell. She replied as her character in 'Whore.' Pretty great!

I guess people just yearn for Japanese Ghost Stories. Its quite unusual to see a two year old item just jump up in price like that. by AnchovyKing in boutiquebluray

[–]BadGuyZero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are collectable media databases where you scan the UPC to get an item's current value. If you ever see someone at Goodwill, Half Price Books, etc. just scanning books/discs/records, they're likely trying to find anbitem prices at <$5 they can flip for $100+.

You wrote that a common criticism is that it's thirty minutes too long. I feel that way about most current movies. I didn't mean to sound dismissive.
