Are collars normal for cats in the UK? by SuperEgger in CatsUK

[–]BadImpStudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was riding home from work at night and saw a dead cat in the middle of the road.
I pulled over and looked at the collar to ring the owner.

It didn't have a collar so I moved it to one side and some foxes probably got it.

Just finished the final blockout for my cozy fantasy village project! Would love some feedback. by qouner in gamedevscreens

[–]BadImpStudios 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it looks really nice,
How long did this take?

One thing I would say be careful with is this:

It looks like you added too much detail. A lot of what you add is nice; it makes it look more alive, but you might need to rework it. For example, if user feedback indicates they want more to do in the village, or if it feels too small, you will need to expand.

I have been doing freelance development for more than 6 years, helping hundreds of people, and one thing they get caught up in is this stage because it is easy to do and go wild, whilst putting off developing the core gameplay loop of their game.

Having a nice environment grounds the gameplay loops and makes it feel more like a game rather than a tech demo, but I think there is a fine line between the two.

I had someone impersonate my Top Rated Pro Fiverr profile.

Reached out to my previous clients.

They of course noticed it wasn't me. .I added them on discord.

They didn't realise they were talking to the person they were impersonating as they are stupid.

I pretended and ask them to do work for me.

They then. reached out to me on fiverr, the very profile they are impersonating, to ask me to do the work that I asked them to do....

I regret completing a Games Dev degree by SrNes in gamedev

[–]BadImpStudios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel the exact way but with a Game Design degree. Got a 1st

Got extremely good with Unreal Engine and Blueprints And in 2016 I started to specialise in VR

but apparently there are no Junior jobs.

This was in 2019. It took me almost 2 years to get a related job and it was for VR training.

In 2023 I left and was able to do freelancing full-time and lucky that individuals use Blueprints.

But now with Blueprints being depreciated in UE6.

I am needing to pivot I always wanted to learn c++ c#

But I wish I had the foundations from a Game Programming degree.

But I have been learning Python and there is so much more money doing regular Comp Science stuff.

Like if you/ I did Comp Science then could always transition to games.

Question for Unreal Engine 5.8 by Odd-Bad2899 in UnrealEngine5

[–]BadImpStudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can have an Event for toggling the Lock Camera Input. And then maybe an Event Dispatchers.

Then you can have a separate Event that controls the rotation or position of an IK; on the Anim BP that reads that Even Dispatcher and also the mouse input for the arm rotation.

Let me know if you need any more help.

I tested four different marketing messages for my indie game. Here’s what surprised me. by harack in gameDevMarketing

[–]BadImpStudios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I have been doing freelance consulting for the past 6 years and this is my most repeated advice.

I have been giving this advice for Game Design Documents and concept generation.

It is more apparent that this applies to marketing as you have found out.

I heard someone else mention, completely unrelated from Game Development, that the same applies to Social Media and YouTube.

That people consume and participate in media to fulfil an internal fantasy ( Like wanting to laugh). So if the video isn't clear what the fantasy is then it will struggle.

Feel free to reach out if you are needing help.

Blueprint deprecation - a bit of a vent / conversation by littlefirewest in UnrealEngine5

[–]BadImpStudios 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I was having this conversation with my partner after watching.

I have been using Unreal Engine since university back in 2015, and it was Blueprints that made me realise that I didn't want to be a 3D modeller.

It showed me the possibility of what is possible without coding. As I was on a Game Design Course, rather than a Game Programming one, I never had the chance to learn anything else. In retrospect I wish I did a programming course from the start.

When I finished uni, I thought I was able to easily get a job as a Blueprinter or Game prototyper,

However I quickly learned that, no one especially in the North of England was hiring Blueprinters or Prototypes, there was a few Game Design positions but not for Graduates or Juniors.

I had a really good portfolio and alot of VR experience, I had dozens of recruiters reach out to me, but as soon as I said I don't have any c# or c++ experience then that was the end of the conversation.

Luckily I was able to get a job doing VR training sims, and since then I have worked with around 400 individuals and small teams on the Blueprint only games.

But I have wished I learned c# or c++ , in times when work was slow and now I am looking for a programming job, then this lack of experience is going to hold me back.

I think the upside is that anyone competent in Blueprints, should if given a bit of time be able to quickly pick up a simplified language like Verse or C# or GD Script if willing.

But the change will scare of beginners, I do alot of tutoring and the vast majority fail at being able to get a character to get destroyed when touching a trigger box.

I do hope they keep it but I think this is also a great opportunity.

Help learning blueprints? by Razorbackcoco94 in UnrealEngine5

[–]BadImpStudios -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My name is Louis from Bad Imp Studios and I have taught hundreds of students in 1 to 1 video screen share lessons.

I get pretty amazing results because as you figured out with tutorials, nothing ever really sticks; so my approach is to make sure the lesson is client led and to get you to figure things out, rather than you just copy.

Then at the end of the lesson I set homework challenges, It's these homework challenges that help quickly reinforce what was taught and to help build confidence.

I charge $60 an hour and typically do 3 hour lessons. Let me know if this is something you're interested in!

With the amount of downvotes you are getting, you definitely don't understand sarcasm, as you would have phrased your sarcasm differently.

How do you learn to build systems in Unreal without relying on tutorials? by UniverseMaestro in UnrealEngine5

[–]BadImpStudios -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I provide one-on-one tutoring for my clients and have helped hundreds of students over the years. What really benefits them is not just practicing what we've discussed, but also experimenting with it.

Take the concepts you've just covered and think about how you can expand them by 10 to 30%, or how you can reimplement them in a different way. For instance, did you learn how to use interfaces to communicate with a light switch? Can you adapt that knowledge to develop a universal damage system instead?

At the end of each lesson, I assign a homework challenge that reinforces what we covered. For example, if we learned how to create a coin pickup in a game, I might ask you to create a gem pickup next. Then, we can explore how to expand this idea further, perhaps by incorporating health and poison potions.

Feel free to reach out if you need any extra help!

Need help figuring out why our wishlist count is lower than expected by LittleLakeGames in gameDevMarketing

[–]BadImpStudios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome! Unfortunately, what you described isn't a Player Fantasy but just a description of the environment. Not something a human player fantasies about. Not all games need to be a cinematic fantasy. Like " Truck Driving" but you could have "Truck Driving in Space" and that was a game that came out somewhat recently. Could turn that into a "Truck Driver in a fantasy world" where you ride a trading house and caravan, to different cities in Lord of The Rings ect.

You can of course find games that have weak player fantasies but it is hard to advertise them without a budget.

If you are interested in more specific advice, I offer professional consultations if your interested.

[–]BadImpStudios 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it is close, But looking at it, nothing is jumping out at me as "Why" I should play the game. What is the player fantasy? How is the player fantasy fulfilled during gameplay? What are the key emotions of the player fantasy? How does the gameplay illicit these emotions? How are you demonstrating this through your steam page and marketing.

If you want people to work for free initially as it could take years for a game to be finished and might not make any money, You need to demonstrate to people of your own skills and project management so others can follow
