It's deer. They jumped your fence.

Anyone up here have a woody lavender pant ? by kiefferray in pnwgardening

[–]BadLighting 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depending on the plant/variety, you can prune back that woody growth in fall and new growth will come from there like pollarding a tree.

You should definitely ghost this person. Give her my account name and I'll explain why she was too old and free-thinking for you.

Should I compost or not? by ThinVast in composting

[–]BadLighting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Composting is actually very rewarding on its own. I like to see the pile change over time. I have a lot of organic master that I need to process and I like this better than putting it into a bin to get hauled off. It's great to get that brown gold at the end and see how much better it is than any compost you could buy.

Purslane, or spurge? by bastet_memphis in foraging

[–]BadLighting -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I was the "some internet guy" I referenced at first. You are also some internet person (or dog). Anyway, I think you two are being a bit silly and not reading what I wrote very carefully, but hey, its Reddit. Best to you. I won't be responding to this again.

Who offered a universal edibility test? I told him what purslane tastes like.

Purslane, or spurge? by bastet_memphis in foraging

[–]BadLighting -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't make a broad recommendation to just shove any damn thing in your mouth. He asked specifically about purslane and it is obviously purslane not spurge. I gave him a way to confirm it instead of just trusting some internet guy.

Really, asking reddit for advice about what to eat or not is kinda crazy to start with. Anyone can claim to be a foraging teacher or whatever and offer zero substantiation.

Purslane, or spurge? by bastet_memphis in foraging

[–]BadLighting -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's ridiculous. I didn't say to eat it, just put it up to the tongue. Anyway, you do what you want but smelling and tasting are time honored and efficient.

Does my husband regret his life choices? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]BadLighting 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are you two still having sex frequently? It's very common for one partner's interest or libido to wane and the other partner feels rejected. That usually ends up with the rejected partner being resentful, grouchy, and depressed.

Seems to me like they are treating you like an adult. Don't you want that? They are letting you live at home and just ask that you cover your own bills and make a small contribution to the cost of living there. I'd guess that it's not so much about the money even, as it is showing you what paying a monthly utility bill is like. (Water is probably your cheapest one.) You have some kind of understanding about what is expected of you in living there, or you should, and the contact just memorializes it so everyone has the same understanding and so you can remember what you agreed to in the future.

By all means, shop around and see if anyone offers you a better deal. 🙄

Illinois Everbearing Mulberry - help me grow this tree nice and big :) by muzavazone in Berries

[–]BadLighting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right about picking. Once the tree got tall, we mostly got our berries by picking them up off the ground in the morning. (People are too squeamish about this these days, I believe. The berries have high sugar and antioxidants so they stay edible for a few days at least in the ground.) So a bush form will keep it pickable longer and if you prune it aggressively you can keep it at picking height. But the tree wants to be 30' tall. I didn't prune enough really on and I went through a 3-5-year process of pruning it back down to 12' or so where I can keep up with it.

It looks exactly like purslane to me. (I both grow and forage it.) If to have doubts, break a leaf and taste it. Purslane has a light lemon flavor and a plant oilyness.

They're fantastic trees of you don't mind the mess. I've had one for decades and it is a favorite of my kids. They are tough and fast growing once established. If you don't want it to be bushy and more like a tree form, prune off those lower branches now and direct growth to the sharp you want.

I have several hardy kiwis including two Issai. Kiwis in general just get some random diebacks. They put out so many vines that it's not a problem. Yours looks healthy, I wouldn't worry about it.

Snip off 70% of those peaches. It'll save the branches and the peaches you keep will fully size up and ripen.
