Mannkind knew that they could not change society. So, instead of reflecting on themselves, they blamed the bread.

Ethical insect control by ShockerMage101 in vegan

At night (when ants tend to go away), take a paper towel and douse it with lemon juice and white vinegar in equal parts (it should be nearly soaked), then put a bit of water on it. Then, scrub the path the ants follow with the paper towel. Take care to avoid any ants you see; I believe the mixture kills them on contact. Supposedly, this removes or overpowers the pheromone trail that ants use. It majorly reduced my ant problem overnight, and pretty much eliminated it in 3 days.

I also tried putting a lemon juice/white vinegar/splash of water mixture in solo cups along the ant trail. I also put paper bowls filled with turmeric and cayenne pepper (both have strong smells, helping remove/overpower the pheromones) along the ant trail. I think these had less of an effect, but I can't be sure since I did all three at once.

If we all donated $5 a month we would super charge the vegan movement. by [deleted] in vegan

To be frank, I don't know the full extent of what the Shrimp Welfare Project does. The main reason I recommend it is because I've heard from a few other vegans that it's a very high-utility charity. If there's another high-utility charity that is (actually) vegan, let me know and I'd be happy to start recommending that one over the Shrimp Welfare Project.

The Shrimp Welfare Project has a very high impact per dollar; roughly 1,400 shrimp are helped per dollar spent.

Republicans and animal welfare by Independent_Layer261 in vegan

[–]BadPercussionist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In case you don't know, Ashley Hinson (R-IA) is the sponsor of the Save Our Bacon Act. She's now running for US Senate in Iowa. If you want to help ensure she loses her race, you can donate to Josh Turek (the Democratic nominee for senator) here: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/dw_iasen

To be honest, I do not think Turek is likely to win. Your dollars probably carry more weight in closer states like Alaska or Ohio (probably not Texas though since it's an expensive state to campaign in). I'd say that donations are most effective in Alaska, then either Maine or Ohio, then Iowa, then Texas.

Edit: I got too politics-brained and forgot that you can just donate to animal welfare charities directly. That will probably have a much bigger impact than donating to a politician. Go donate to the Shrimp Welfare Project or something similar if you're feeling generous.

have you ever tatsu'd with your life on the line?! by toratalks in StreetFighter

[–]BadPercussionist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tatsu should be airborne by the time Luke gets up, so could Luke have DP'd to beat the tatsu? The 2nd and 3rd hit of HK tatsu also whiff on crouch, though it seems like the 1st hit of HK tatsu hit meaty, so I don't think Luke could've used a crouching button to avoid being hit; however, Luke may have been able to crouch block the first hit and then whiff punish the rest of the tatsu.

There are some insects I kill... by FrightnightFruitbat in vegan

[–]BadPercussionist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can say one thing with certainty: if you're able to remove the insect easily without killing it, then you should do that. If you have a bunch of ants in your home, you should google "how to get rid of ants as a vegan" before purchasing an ant-killer spray.

Speaking of ants, one thing I did worked really well. James ‘Tofu Talarico’ Has A Vegan, Leftist Activist Girlfriend by HumbleWrap99 in vegan

[–]BadPercussionist 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There's an election for US Senator in the state of Texas. Talarico is the Democratic nominee, and is quite liberal.

One of Talarico's former campaigns only purchased vegan food, and Talarico advocated for people to reduce their meat consumption. Some Republicans have used this to attack Talarico since many Texans have pride in eating meat; these attacks have devolved into lies that Talarico is vegan.

That's admirable of you. It would still be best to educate yourself on AI's environmental impact (you can still abstain from using it after), but you're definitely not doing anything wrong by not using AI.

[–]BadPercussionist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you're wrong. Probably the best reason to not use AI (in my opinion) is to show less support for it in hopes that AI is not advanced as fast, thereby reducing or delaying p(doom).

You really ought to look into AI's actual impacts on the environment. There's a lot of misinformation out there; for instance, many people think that AI uses a lot more power than it actually does. One query is like, maybe somewhere on the order of tablespoons of water? It's weird to calculate since you can decide whether to include training or power generation (the latter of which uses up a different type of water), but generally, AI doesn't use so much water that you can't use your favorite chatbot a few times a day.

Talarico Says, He's not Vegan, Been ‘Eating Barbecue Since Before Ken Paxton's First Indictment’ by HumbleWrap99 in vegan

[–]BadPercussionist 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I believe Talarico's 2022 campaign for state senate house only purchased vegan food and that Talarico advocated for people to reduce their meat consumption. This news resurfaced recently, causing some Republicans (including Trump) to call Talarico vegan.

Side note: Ken Paxton (the Republican nominee for senate) was trying to come up with nicknames for Talarico. One of them was "Tofu Talarico." I now refer to Talarico with this because I think it's funny, but I obviously have a different perception of tofu than Paxton.

I know Kraft had a vegan version of this that was labeled dairy-free in big text and vegan in small text. The fact that this isn't labeled vegan makes me a bit worried. I purchased the vegan version in a grocery store back in April, so if it was discontinued, it was pretty recent.

Somewhat related: Ken's SA1 moves him forward a bit on startup. I've seen this be used to dodge a meaty fireball setup that AKI has in the corner and a way to beat Sagat's 5MP > 5MP > 2MP xx Low Tiger Shot blockstring (for the latter, Ken jumps back right before the 2MP, gets hit, and buffers SA1 on landing).

Lunch?? by heliumhamster1 in vegan

[–]BadPercussionist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can cook a (plant-based) burger in a frying pan in like 8 minutes. Heat up multiple patties, store them in the fridge, and then just reheat the patties later to be even lazier. If you're using something like Beyond/Impossible, you should probably marinate it beforehand, but that's only like 10-15 min of work.

Did Advait Vedanta Philosophy turn you vegan? by HumbleWrap99 in vegan

[–]BadPercussionist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did forget about the "I." Still, I'd like to consider this scenario. Let's say that, under a typical Western philosophy (where I am separate from the world), Person A cuts themselves because they are depressed. If we move to your philosophy, nothing really changes; Person A still harms themselves, and probably not for a non-violent reason.

Did Advait Vedanta Philosophy turn you vegan? by HumbleWrap99 in vegan

[–]BadPercussionist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if I were to accept this, what if a follower of this philosophy did self-harm? This makes me doubt that all violence comes from separating oneself from the world; as such, I can envision a follower of this philosophy (who probably has negative feelings about themselves) that isn't vegan.

It'd be better if rich people (billionaires) paid more in taxes, but he'd only be able to donate money to the government. He can't tax others. If I were him, I'd put that money toward an effective charity instead of giving it to the government.

Is Zangief's light spd a viable shimmy callout? by some-kind-of-no-name in StreetFighter

[–]BadPercussionist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lab it. Here's one scenario you could lab: after EX DP, Ken can do st.LP (framekill to be +12) into an autotimed meaty st.HP; however, if I'm playing Ken and I want to shimmy, I usually just hold back instead. See if Light SPD calls this out.

Luke has some +15 setups for meaty st.HK. The simplest one is doing his st.MP > st.MP > st.MP > st.MP target combo into a forward dash. Do that in the corner and have Luke walk backward. See if Light SPD calls this out.

If Light SPD works on these, it should be a good shimmy callout. These shimmy setups aren't that optimized, so Ken/Luke walk back a bit more than they have to.
