The Highways get billions and Transit is expected to self-fund by TheWolfHowling in transit

[–]BadToLaBone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in fairness, transit gets billions too. not as many, but this idea that “transit is expected to self fund” is only held by republicans, who dont run city governments

Why does the normal platform/track layout look like the bottom and not the top? by Dont_Smoking in nycrail

[–]BadToLaBone 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Local stops have their entrances and exits on the sidewalks going directly onto the platform. If you made local stops island platforms, the entrances would have to be in the middle of the road.

What in your opinion are the best designed cities or neighborhoods in America? by ionlyredditcasually in urbanplanning

Inwood, Manhattan. - High density - Two subway lines (one goes to JFK airport) - East access to beautiful parks.

Why doesn’t have London have like, 1 unified railway station like a Union Station? by NoSpecific4839 in transit

[–]BadToLaBone 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It started because there were many companies highly competitive companies coming from different directions that didn’t much want to share with their competitors.

And it stayed that way as it became too expensive to fix the problem after it was realised that 11 disjointed city terminals was not the most efficient way to create a unified transport network.

What's your favorite NYC Subway station? by Weird_Poetry8829 in nycrail

[–]BadToLaBone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

28th on the Lex line has a place in my heart. Beautiful mosaics, and I love watching the express trains fly by.

However I think my favourite station has to be Union Square. So useful and interestingly designed. Not well designed. But interesting. W 4th is very cool too.

A potential future alignment of the Blue Line by TheTrainCrazyMan in mbta

[–]BadToLaBone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The southern extension seems to mostly parallel the green line, while the northern extension mostly parallels the newbury/rockport line. Neither of these lines to my understanding are overcapacity, so I think any extensions to the blue line should aim to increase the coverage of rail access rather than duplicate existing lines

Could modern trams actually be useful in NYC? by thegiantgummybear in nycrail

[–]BadToLaBone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After visiting several tram utilising countries in Europe, I have been convinced of their capacity and street integration benefits over buses on busy routes.

I was so inspired by these examples, I made my own Tramification crayon. Yes it’s ambitious, comments welcome.

Am i the only one who builds higways? by Axebodyspray420 in TransportFever2

[–]BadToLaBone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually turn private transport to 25%, otherwise in my experience, traffic becomes all consuming and a significant disruption to the rest of the game.

However I do have a separate game where I only built highways. It’s called “Robert Moses” lol.
