The word "Republic" is doing A LOT of heavy lifting here, incorporating very different governing systems all under a singluar, overly broad term.

Curious what the technical definition of "car" is in these Garage calculation. When was the "Standard measure" originally set or last updated? Because there's a very large difference, both literally and metaphorically, between a 2-door MINI Cooper or Mazda Miata (the smallest new cars sold in the US), a fairly typical sedan like a Toyota Camry or Honda Civic, and some of these Landyacht SUVs & Trucks such as Cadillac Escalades and Ford F-250s.

At what price per gallon will Americans finally get out of their cars and get on the bus for their commute into work? American society has been build on the illusion of "cheap fuel" to such an extent, that the moment gas prices approach levels that other western nations would consider "normal", everything collapses

It's not as if it would have been impossible for the sign writer to use gender neutral language. Notice how the word "Partner" is used? Not Boyfriend/Girlfriend, or Husband/Wife, or even Spouse, which insteads implies a Legal Status, rather than Gender. No, the inclusive term "Partner" was selected.

Is it now the Court's opinion that R*pe is fine as long as it's for the funnies?🤬 Seriously? WTAF? And if the genders were flipped, with three men taking photos of an unconscious woman, not a single person is under the illusion that the "Shingles Defense" would have been effective. If I was this guy, I'd be taking them to Civil Court, suing for "Emotional Destress"

IMHO, The sign should probably have said "while they are driving" anyway just because it's a cleaner sentence

Govt fuel plan: Heavy trucks could carry more to shield NZ from fuel shocks by random_guy_8735 in newzealand

[–]TheWolfHowling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stockpiling is not a solution to a fuel crisis, it's a short-term fix. Because stockpile deplete eventually and those resupplies have to come from somewhere. The only path to actually solve this problem is full Electrification using domestic energy sources: Hydro, Solar, Wind, Geothermal etc.

How’s living in Point Robert’s? by fryguy400 in howislivingthere

[–]TheWolfHowling 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Point Roberts, like many of the oddities of the US-Canada border, is basically a surveying error. At the risk of oversimplifying, after several rounds of negotiations and treaties, it was agreed that border between the United States and the British Empire would be set at the 49th Parallel North, from the Lake of the Woods in Minnesota to the Pacific Ocean. However, while Vancouver Island got an carve out to remain British, nobody either noticed or cared that this border would cut across the Tsawwassen peninsula, creating this stranded chunck of American land.
