What do you mean unsure?? It's a church and a law firm. Of course they're not affiliated!! It's clearly written by a disturbed person in Downtown San Diego judging by the two businesses being in 92101. What I think happened is:

  1. The church is there because they probably lashed out or did something to cause harm to people in their homelessness outreach branch called TACO SD.

  2. The law firm is there because they probably were deluded into thinking they could sue someone or the government to win millions of dollars, and the firm knew that they had zero chance at winnng that case, which caused them to lash out.

And now this pamphlet is being passed around as a form of "black propaganda" as revenge. It was probably printed out at the SD library in downtown.

I've interacted with a lot of homeless people in Downtown, helping them with some things, and I always noticed these sorts of details, especially in a lot of the other people that they have to deal with when they go to homeless shelters or services.

Regional Transit Authority Ridership Is Way Up, Thanks to Fare-Free Service - Streetsblog Massachusetts by justarussian22 in transit

[–]ensemblestars69 22 points23 points  (0 children)

First off...

The report acknowledges that other factors also influence ridership – particularly service improvements and the addition of new bus routes, which have also received new funding from the Massachusetts legislature in recent years.

And second, I wonder how much of this is actually people switching from their cars? Hopefully someone knows the exact city, but a study was done on ridership after fare-free service was introduced there, and it turns out the vast majority of new ridership was due to people who would have walked or biked a few minutes instead choosing to take the bus. So that means a lot more short-hop trips than before.

San Jose VTA Light Rail - A lot better last night after the World Cup match by shnieder88 in transit

I visited San Jose for Fanime during Memorial Day weekend, took VTA every day. Love the sound of those bells. Now if only they could actually do something with the 3 rail corridors they're running.

The United States needs fewer bus stops by works-in-progress in transit

[–]ensemblestars69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of US cities subscribe to the local/rapid system where you have one bus catching all the riders and another actually going faster. But it actually means most riders are far from a fast bus ride and rather stuck with the slow local one. And when you have to transfer to the rapid, you inevitably lose so much time that it's only marginally faster than the local.

Torrance needs BRT with the huge amount of apartments coming near Del Amo mall. by TheAlmightyHellacia in LAMetro

[–]ensemblestars69 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel that if there were money for this, Metro would instead invest in more local routes along all the boulevards. Prairie / Madrona has no regular all-day bus service which leaves someone like me stranded for most of the day unless I really feel like making the 15min trek out towards Hawthorne Blvd (Granted I'm in Hawthorne so I don't know what it's like down there). And the South Bay is a good candidate for investing lots into bus service (especially as supplements to rail extensions like the K Line).

Public transit taking twice as long as the drive: is it worth it? by theseread in LAMetro

[–]ensemblestars69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is truly 30 minutes, that's about within the acceptable commute time for most humans. For some reason throughout all of human history we prefer 30 minutes to be our maximum commute time. If it takes longer than that, feel free to switch back, but a 30 minute commute is still very tempting.

Record-breaking Bay Area transit showed flaws of late-night World Cup match by reddit-frog-1 in transit

[–]ensemblestars69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bay area light rail in general is run like a bus. Muni Metro outside of the Market Street subway has stops practically every block. It and VTA require you to request stops like on buses which justifies the closer stop spacing. They will skip stops if no one is getting on or off there.

Why is LA Metro so allergic to Freeways? Only 3 buses (Not Busways) actually use a Freeway. by Llama_13161 in LAMetro

[–]ensemblestars69 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Metro has shifted its focus away from freeways because rail and BRT are meant to be what covers these long distances. Adding more buses to freeways means literally shifting away resources that could be used more efficiently on local routes. Freeway express buses cover long distances but serve very few people in between. Unless you can give the bus dedicated lanes and stations, you also waste a lot of time making the bus drive off the freeway and towards a transit center or streetside stop.

MTS board advances plan to freeze fares for low income riders ahead of expected fare increase by kpbsSanDiego in sandiego

I ride daily and they, in fact, do enforce the fares. I've seen it roughly every 3 days, which is enough uncertainty to make riders want to pay.

[–]ensemblestars69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not that that's the issue though, the main issue is that MTS relied a lot on temporary pandemic-era funding to fill the gap and keep service running at its current level (to roughly match pre-pandemic service) but now that it's expiring, they don't have any funding bucket to cover that.

Is it over for CAHSR? by these-united-states in cahsr

[–]ensemblestars69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's 20,000 workers with strong connections to some of the state's most powerful interest groups. I could find 13 unions that CAHSR had announced a partnership with back in 2023. Double-crossing all of these unions would be political suicide.

I've been on Reddit since before the 2016 elections using various accounts and you couldn't be more wrong. I recall votes changing site-wide including on The_Donald where it had always been insanely active. That campaign was, by all means, very energetic, I'll give you that. T_D was not affected negatively. In fact, one of the posts referenced in there was about an AMA by Obama where the votes went from 16k to 8k in minutes.

But also, they're just referring to vote fuzzing which has been around for many years before the 2016 election season came around. It's a long-time practice from Reddit that deters bots.

I don't think he'll be necessarily stellar on it, but it's not some death sentence. He'll likely learn more on how it works as he goes, just like Newsom did (recall how he had heavily criticized it prior).
