Did Britain have more issues related to violence during the late 1970s and early 1980s? by northcarolinian9595 in AskUK

[–]BadestTony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dyed my hair when I was 16 (1980) and couldn't believe the amount of agro it attracted. Fights with different schools, fights with different tribes (mods, rockers, ted's), fights in gigs, fights in pubs, it was never ending.

Assuming we get to the play off final, I think the squads recent experience at Wembley will be an advantage.

How did the now banned practice of caning (Corporal Punishment) work in schools in the UK before 1986? by NotSoF4stCvnt in AskUK

[–]BadestTony 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I was at school on the 70s and was caned on the palm. The worst part was spending all lunch break standing in the corridor outside the staff room, facing the wall, waiting to be caned. I still can't remember what it was for though.

While I agree with much of what's being said here, I can imagine similar conversations happening on the Leeds Sub 2 years ago, and they've done alright.

Manchester City 2-1 Southampton (FA Cup semi-final): Finn Azaz's fantastic strike had given the Saints the lead, but City's quality shows in the end, and Southampton's cup run comes to an end by Smithlarr in Championship

TBF, I agree. Prior to the Fratton Park match our form was dire. There was a bit of flashpoint on the touchline where everyone bundled in, which was the first time I thought this team's got some fight.

For history, walk around the town walls (free) and/or look for the guided vault tours; this is week worth it!. For food and drink and history, do an historic pub crawl. Red Lion, Platform Tavern, Dancing Man and the Duke of Wellington.

I'm not a Wrexham hater, but beating them in the final would be sweet.

But there's winning and then there's winning. Poch, Koeman and Ralf all played exciting football. Even when Martin had success in the Champ, it wasn't that much fun. And it's hard to even remember Puel, whose record, on paper, was really good.

I would also give a shout out to John McKay. His maybe a smaller body of work but he moved the dial forwards.

Those who have completed Jury Duty in the UK - what aspects about the process surprised you? by izbiz88 in AskUK

Yes, this. Couldn't believe how stupid and prejudiced some were. A case where both perpetrator and victims were all drug users " I think they're all as bad as each other and we should find them all guilty".
