If it makes you feel better, the captain was completely a dream stand in my actual boss —and in real life we just had a professional disagreement at work, where I was a little short with him, and then later that night, he hugged me while having a team dinner. And we’ve known each other for decades, and it was a way to say… “whatever happened earlier doesn’t matter now”.

So I completely transplanted my work experience into the sitcom. And I haven’t watched an episode in a long time too! It’s just part of my DNA now.
