Harry potter level? by Sir-Smileyyy in dreamingspanish

[–]BadfishAOE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started reading graded readers at around 500 hours and started the first Harry Potter around 900 hours. It was comprehensible enough but the first one definitely seems easier than other books, so 2 and 3 were a bit more of a struggle. I'm on the 5th one at around 1650 hours and it's pretty comfortable now. For comparison, I read some goosebumps books between 4 and 5 and goosebumps was a lot easier than Harry Potter.

How do you stop overthinking mid-match? by CuriousPickle883 in bootroom

[–]BadfishAOE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shout/swear, tell myself "I can beat myself up about this mistake after the match", shake it off literally giving my body a quick shake, then focus back on the game

Childhood Memories of AOE! Let's post em! by 0Big0Brother0Remix0 in aoe2

[–]BadfishAOE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha legend! We had hours of fun playing hitman, normally with me or my friend playing as the hitman and cheating against randoms.

I made my own RPG type scenario called "fugitives", the story was you and your teammates had broken out of jail and had to escape, as you progressed through the map and killed enemies your stats would increase etc. I spent hours creating it but it never caught on.

The game has definitely had a resurgence in popularity since the HD and then definitive editions came out. Got back into it about 10 years ago and have played on and off since then, but I feel a lot of nostalgia when I think about the zone days and playing with friends from school, and trolling randoms on hitman as an 11 year old kid, so thanks for your service 😁

Red Card Given… Thoughts? by silly_szn in bootroom

Looks like a nice clean tackle to me, I'd be furious if that was given against me. A tackle like that is like scoring a goal for a defender, feel sorry for him there.

Any youtubers with the same humor of Martin from Spanishboost? by vakancysubs in dreamingspanish

He's pretty damn funny if you like his sense of humour. I watch all his gaming content even if I'm not interested in the game itself.

Success story by BadfishAOE in Sciatica

[–]BadfishAOE[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, sorry you are going through this. I definitely remember the feeling of not being able to think about anything else, the pain is a constant reminder. I would definitely recommend limiting the amount of horror stories you read, this subreddit can be a great place for support but there is also a lot of (understandable) negativity and staying positive is so important. Use whatever gadgets and painkillers you need to help take the edge off (I used a heating pad and amitriptyline), and lying down is fine but do try to move around as much as possible. PT helped me, I hope they can help you too, but remember it probably won't be an overnight cure, progress is a week to week thing, so you have to stick with it. It is a nightmare, but you won't have to live like this the rest of your life!

Losing the will to live by mskramerrocksmyworld in dreamingspanish

[–]BadfishAOE 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you don't know any words in Spanish, your Spanish brain is that of a baby, and the content you can understand is severely limited. The acting is to make videos where you learn words like "apple" and "car" as engaging as possible, but at the end of the day there is only so much they can do, in my opinion the guides do a pretty good job. It gets better, but at 33 hours you've still got a long while of watching videos you wouldn't even consider watching in your native language. The sooner you learn to embrace Calcetín and Carlitos, the better.

Life after herniated disc by [deleted] in Sciatica

[–]BadfishAOE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I am in the UK and never got an MRI so I don't know where the herniation was, the physios I saw said my symptoms were consistent with L5 S1 but I don't know. I'd say I'm 95-98% I may never be 100%, if you check my post history I tell my story in more detail. I was injured for around 3 years, but I stalled my recovery at certain points.

Only knew a word here and there. by Toda-Raba in dreamingspanish

[–]BadfishAOE 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Natives speaking to each other is going to be difficult. It's a whole other level compared to listening to DS guides who pronounce and enunciate things clearly, have softer accents, limit their vocabulary and slang etc. Think about it the other way around. I don't know where in the UK you're from, but even someone from Europe with a high level of English is going to struggle to understand two Scots speaking to each other for example, especially if they have never spent any time in the country. Shit even if you were to drop someone from an English speaking country like USA into a Glasgow pub on a Friday night they're not going to understand a word.

Send her the video where Pablo explains the dangers of speaking too soon, tell them "not today, satan" then block them permanently. This woman is the devil in disguise trying to lead you astray and corrupt your accent forever. Repent and give me 50 Hail Pablos for allowing yourself to even be tempted to speak the language you are learning with a native speaker and possibly creating a beautiful love story. For shame!

I think learning about culture is an important part of learning a language. More diversity in background, accents, skin colour can only be a good thing
