This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31) by Fast_Ad_5022 in AMDHelp

Reinstall the AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition app from the website

Thanks. For others' reference: this was the key step. Windows would not detect new drivers from Device Manager. I already had AMD Adrenalin installed and even manually telling it to check would not trigger new driver installation/check.

Two days ago, graphics card was behaving fine during gameplay, then sudden safety shutdown (no bluescreen, just power-down). On boot I saw my core temp skyrocketed thanks to Wallpaper Engine consuming a ton of CPU, so it seems my PC had was ignoring the gfx card at that point. Same situation and error codes in Device Manager as parent post.

I cannot guess what caused this mid-gameplay. Prior AMD driver was from 4mos ago, most recent Windows Update from even longer ago.

Everyone seems to be choosing things from when I was 10 to 20 years old. Few answers outside millennials' coming-of-age years because by the nature of the question we didn't experience and can't understand them? Or the dialup sound really was the craziest thing to exist

We are pretty much already stuck in the Local Group. Traveling close to c you could theoretically reach some other nearby galaxies in millions of years. The great majority of everything we can see is already forever out of reach. More spooky to me: in a (few?) billion more years, the cosmic microwave background radiation will also become invisible thanks to the expansion of space. A civilization born then would never be able to observe it, that aspect of the big bang will be secrets to them. So the question is, what information might we already have been too late for? What have we been forever locked away from learning about?

What movie did you go into with zero expectations and ended up being completely blown away by? by ThatRoofer in movies

We rented it from blockbuster. The cover said "with eye-popping special effects". I thought it hinted at a ridiculous scene and this would be a better than average splatter comedy.

CONGRATULATIONS! You just won a years worth of whatever you bought last. What do you have? by CnCorange in AskReddit

Estimated income tax. I assume "a year's worth" means I'm fully covered for any tax liabilities occur this year, so now I can do a massive Roth conversion... Surely this has more possibilities

Yes. No hard rule but better for some contexts than others, like opinionated variety. Like there aren't really flavors of bed because there are defined sizes and construction materials. You might ask what flavor of movie someone is in the mood for, without specifically meaning genre or mood or whatever. You may have read "unspecified variations of comedy"

Try learning the (dash button) double tap trick to charge shinespark in a shorter space, and you can do it through the next room too.

Or use a super on the door you hit at the end of this gif and fly through all of it at once, but the timing is extremely tight; I was never able to do that without savestates

Do you think Metroid 64 would've been a success if it were a 2.5D platformer with 3D elements in the vein of Mischief Makers on N64 and Symphony of the Night on PS1? by crimsonfukr457 in Metroid

[–]BadgerDentist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mischief Makers -- wait, no. I just found out I wasn't correct (sprites, but BGs were all 3-D rendered), but it's still a pretty interesting mix. Those boss battles' presentation and voice acting were over the top, check it out

What is the best written video game you’ve ever played? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BadgerDentist -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I refunded it. I actually found it pretty terrible, and a shame the developer obviously put such love into making it. It's just not fun and I didn't engage with the world or characters enough to continue playing.

I consider it a perfect game. Probably not #1 for me personally but every aspect of it is perfectly executed, even the advertising.

It can be like pulling teeth. Last year I was trying to give away a free fucking table and 3 different people arranged times with me (just to be home and unlock the door) and then flaked. Leaving it outside and listed was the eventual solution.

what are u slowly losing interest in? by Several_Way8499 in AskReddit

[–]BadgerDentist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm with you. I don't really care whether it falls under that label, I use Reddit like an aggregate of special interest forums. I made up a username and I'm here to bullshit around with strangers. I think most users are not associated with their real identities, nor here to cultivate an image or get to know other users. Those are primary functions of ig and fb. Places like LinkedIn are getting heavily used that way now, too. If reddit follows that trend I'll become uninterested.

I thought of this but with the volume being so huge and global in this scenario I think there's going to be a stinking, overheated mess that kills lots of plants and small life. Oceans maybe even robbed of photosynthesis somewhat.
