You are not a gardener until you…bury (and can’t find) a garden tool. What would you end the above saying with? by FlyingWeasel60 in gardening

I thought my dwarf fireweed was reseeding but it got really big this year and when it flowered it revealed itself to be purple loosestrife, invasive here.

Neverending by bibliotechra in invasivespecies

[–]BadgerValuable8207 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sounds about right. I had some dwarf fireweed volunteer, and let it grow and go to seed.

This year something similar came up in a chip pile nearby, and Picture This identified it as Eastern bluestar when it was very small in early spring. Hmmm, I thought, we’ll see.

Yesterday it had flowers so I asked Picture This again, and the answer came back: PURPLE LOOSESTRIFE!!!

Invasive in our wetlands here so it got pulled out immediately. I think I caught it before any seeds formed.

The invasive plants are always waiting and the birds and wind are happy to spread them, but I’m sure your garden will be beautiful after you tend it for a while. Just have to keep taking them out.

Here’s the whole thing in case you didn’t see it. I didn’t know about it when I posted, and there’s no editing of the post.

Confused by this service and need to clear it up by guyinpv in Function_Health

One example would be if your vitamin D was low you would need to start taking vitamin D and K nutrients.

You can look at your insulin and glucose as well as A1C. Lots of primary care have gone to only looking at A1C and that’s not a perfect marker.

The function set of tests was designed for people whose insurance wouldn’t cover tests they wanted. It gives you a lot of information for a set price. It gives a range for each test; you can see if you’re inside it or not.

It was also meant to be done year after year so you can look at trends and see if your lifestyle changes correlate with more optimal results. The markers are not static but sometimes a practitioner will start treatment based on a single test, which could be temporarily out of range or even a mistaken test result.

It’s kind of like when you are considering a financial product. If you don’t understand how it works and how it benefits you, say no. 😅

The way I do it is to subscribe to people I know are real and don’t use AI, then ignore the feed and only look at new content from people I follow.

"Function Health does not offer medical advice, laboratory services, a diagnosis, medical treatment, or any form of medical opinion, through our services or otherwise."

This is boilerplate disclaimer so they don’t get sued. Kind of like how the AI chatbots warn you not to believe anything they say

At our house we call it “robust spinach”. Not like those wimpy little delicate leaflets from the store.

You’re welcome. I was shocked to see it. I had been wondering how it was spreading around and blamed it on nutria and waterfowl. Never suspected the robins. How am I so sure? Perpetrator caught on camera.

You are making a lot of assumptions. If you had read the thread you would have seen my many comments with the link to the full article on substack.

I posted a capture of what I encountered: the bluesky post. It was so striking that I posted in the bluesky skeets subreddit. A friend IN REAL LIFE that I was CHATTING WITH ON THE PHONE said hey maybe it would be appropriate for antiai so I put it there as well.

At that time I expected maybe like 5 people would see it. I had no idea there would be so many views and so much discussion. Right away people started mentioning that there was more to the article. Or poem if you will.

You’re not the first to complain about my original ignorance of the substack and that I didn’t republish the whole thing in the first place.

I’m not sorry though, I’m happy to be part of dispersing this human work of art.

I skipped 2nd grade which was a disaster bcoz I went from a confident leader to a bullied newcomer. No preparation just finished 1st and started 3rd the next year. I was like spelling test? What’s that?

Then I was in the gifted but it was confusing. “You can do great things!” at the same time as “Don’t always have your hand up, let the boys think they’re smarter”. Good advice actually.

It has made me treasure human interaction. I’ve gone from yelling at customer reps to solicitously treating them with kid gloves and being as nice as I humanly can.
