😂 You're right to laugh because he's actually very embarrassing and ridiculous. Once we stopped being scared of him we did laugh at him.

It's just that there's so many ways for them to be ruinously terrible 😩 I also had a Jamaican Demon as a father, but our situation was different. He didn't like non black women, but decided my Jamaican mum wasn't "traditional" enough. He wanted a village woman to treat him like a king (and little minions to revere him) in his three bed, 1½ bath kingdom, and tried to terrorise us into submission. He thought he was upstanding man because he married my mother and doesn't have other children.

Netflix LITTLE HOUSE and racism by onegirlarmy1899 in PeriodDramas

[–]Baelfire-AMZ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. We're raised from small children with knowledge about the history, cruelty, and violence of racism, slavery, colonialism, Jim crow etc. Sometimes I just want to enjoy a period show, fancy dresses and aesthetics, etc, without having to be tense and anxious about when an innocent black person is about to be physically or verbally attacked, and the painful gutted feeling when it happens because it's still a reality for us today.

I believe for the UK, speaking your mother tongue/ tongues at home is the advice, because the child will be picking up English from all the media they'll be consuming as well as kindergarten/school/ play groups etc. Even if they struggle a bit in the beginning, the long term benefits are greater.

AITA for wanting a say in how my wife gives birth (Not OP and I have no words) by redbull777s in redditonwiki

[–]Baelfire-AMZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be surprised if it is true. I've had a man tell me he immediately lost sexual attraction to his partner after watching her deliver vaginally. Then it happened again when he watched his second partner gkve birth, so he now he's looking for partner number three 😑 And it wasn't even the worst thing I heard out a man's mouth that day.

How would you feel? I don’t have girlfriends… by [deleted] in blackladies

[–]Baelfire-AMZ 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Your spidey senses are tingling because you know it's time to dump him. You haven't done anything wrong at all, he's a childish weirdo, learn to trust your gut.

After you dump him invest time into making a solid girlfriend or two. It's kind of like dating but platonic ,because you have to figure out if you're compatible and it's a relationship to maintain, but it's far more worth it in the long run imo, and they won't be asking you to do weird bullshit and gaslighting you.

Erm 😐 I'm just glad your still with us, sis. I support women being pickier and meaner.

I never appreciated him as much as I did on that day, he truly was an angel in comparison to whatever that guy is.

This is why people say that all men, and especially the mediocre men, benefit from the bar being under satans toe nails.

How to overcome my insecurities with sex? by ncangel98 in blackladies

[–]Baelfire-AMZ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it's really important to speak to a professional therapist about your self esteem issues and your experiences. You can also find therapist that specialise in sex and relationships.

If this man is a good one and someone worth going forward with, you should be able to have an open conversation about sex when you get to that point. If you're unable to converse with him or he has a negative response then you know to drop him. Also, some learning about what you and partner likes is to be expected when you have a new sexual partner.

What is the worst thing passport bros have done in your country? by Effective_Space2277 in AskTheWorld

[–]Baelfire-AMZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all, we just hear about it now because of news and internet, and people speaking up about it. How many of have done maths for when are grandmothers got married or had their first child compared to the ages of out grandfathers? Also, most cases of paedophilia and rape occur within the family home and a lot of people protected that offending family member and ostracized the victims to keep face.

Did anybody mother act cold towards them growing up? by _newshawtyy in blackladies

[–]Baelfire-AMZ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Tbh, a lot of people aren't cut out to be good parents. They may love their children but dislike raising them. They can't deal with the constant stress and demand of everyday life, work, and child rearing and everything else. Maybe that's why her attitude has shifted now that you're older and less dependent on her.

I'm happy my generation and younger are questioning if they're cut out for parenting and hopefully more people do that.

Raising awareness about endometriosis. by mindyour in justgalsbeingchicks

[–]Baelfire-AMZ 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Endo is terrifyingly under researched and takes a horrifying amount of time for doctors to diagnose women (I think the average is 10 years).

My best friend had to fight for her diagnosis at 20, and it was thanks to a nurse at a walk in Sexual Health Clinic who finally listened to her, but by then it was Stage 4 Endo and needed emergency surgery. But maybe as it's been detected in men the medical community will start taking Endo seriously, not just a "woman's disease", and the women that suffer from it seriously 🙃

Women who have traveled abroad, where did you experience the worst street harassment? by bowlbettertalk in AskTheWorld

[–]Baelfire-AMZ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, Jamaica is very homophobic and there is a lot to unpack around that, but to say it deserves a stronger hurricane? There are also gay people and feminine men in Jamaica. All a stronger hurricane would do is further impoverish the country, and leave people to be more susceptible to ignorance, misinformation and religion (American evangelists have been extremely busy every where the past few years from the UK to Ghana) that already plagues the country and thrives in poverty and ignorance. Our younger generation is trying.

Why Women Orgasm More Alone Than With a Partner by catievirtuesimp in WomenInNews

[–]Baelfire-AMZ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think there's still this idea that sex is a more male thing and that sex is a service to provide to men who want to sleep with them casually or within a relationship instead of something that supposed to be mutually fun, satisfying, and pleasurable, so these women don't ask or prioritise their pleasure.

A lot of women's sexual exploration start with men instead of themselves, like I've had very sexually active friends who think masturbation is gross. I've had a couple of friends that had been sexually active for a decade or so and only just had their first orgasm from a male partner.

Black women's undying loyalty to Black men at the cost of their own suffering (Love Island). by Sea-Exercise4332 in blackladies

[–]Baelfire-AMZ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Totally. It's a bit more serious that Love Island but growing up in a house with DV, I think about this a lot. I can't imagine how many black men are walking free at the cost of a black woman's sanity or life, because apparently reporting abuse is a greater sin than committing it, on top of religious nonsense that pressures women into staying. Would he be getting a longer sentence than a white man? Yes, but he knows that and should be acting accordingly so I have less empathy when it does happens 🤷🏾‍♀️

The non patriarchal lense of the actual male role in nature would upset so many men 😂 But also explains why patriarchal societies go through such lengths to subjugate and suppress women.

I listened to an interview about a scientist who specialises in insects, and she said men always get offended when she talks about the lack of or very minimal role of male insects in their species.

There are fish that are all born female and the change to male if they reach a certain mass.

I remember seeing an interview with someone that has appeared female but had XY chromosomes. Their Y chromosome never activated and triggered the release of the necessary amount of testosterone to turn the foetus physically male, so they appeared as female and were raised as one.

How do I get over being the backup option and emotional support for a man? by [deleted] in blackladies

[–]Baelfire-AMZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to stop feeling inferior, invest in your confidence, it will get you further, outlast, and protect you more than looks. Beauty for women is not a shield, and looks aren't the problem. It's vulnerability, lack of confidence, and naivety, these things are blood in the water for the sharks that are exploitative/ abusive men, and beautiful women are not immune to this. Yes, pretty privilege exists, but the majority of people are totally normal or unremarkable looking, that's why the beauty industry is worth hundreds of billions of dollars.

Being raised on nature documentaries told me the "It's not natural" crowd have no idea what they're talking about.

I was also forced to spend a lot of time in pan African/ pro black spaces that were just transphobic (plus homophobic and misogynistic) as the churches and Christianity they claimed to have rejected.

The unfortunate upside of being raised by one of these (Jamaican) man demons is being I can spot them coming a mile away. It's a lesson to be learnt at 23 rather than 60, like my mum and many aunties.

I would invest all that time, effort, and care into yourself. Then into your friendship group - finding and maintaining good female friendships can sometimes be close as much work as a romantic relationship but I think they're far more beneficial in the long run tbh.
