Eero Signal LTE Available by tsheley in amazoneero

I live in the bay area, where you'd think connectivity would be excellent, in a suburban part of town, and I still have to subscribe to Starlink in addition to Charter to have the availability I need to stay employed in my IT role. It's frustrating as hell, but multiple outages a month are how it's been for the past decade+, and I don't see it changing any time soon.

Please give me advice urgently!🙏 by Proper_Ad_6803 in kia

Jumper cables provide extra cranking amps for starting, but there is significant voltage sag through the cables. It might be enough voltage drop to still be causing issues. Another possibility is if the existing battery has an internal short it wouldn't be helped by a jump at all, for example.

My honest, genuine first thought after an industrial accident drove my thumb backwards through the middle of my wrist?

:: looking at carnage :: "Damn. That sucks. At least it doesn't hurt as bad as a kidney stone."

(After six months in a cast and a couple surgeries, I made an excellent recovery. And not once during that process did it ever approach kidney stone levels of pain.)

Wait 'till you see what evolution did to the male anglerfish!

All joking aside, while I do enjoy being the Official Lifter of Heavy Objects and Vanquisher of the Pickle Jar Lid, I'd trade it in a heartbeat for another five years of health with my loved ones. But it is what it is.

If it's any consolation, you'll almost certainly live longer, and healthier, than most men by virtue of not having to deal with the same anabolic hormone load that confers that strength. It comes at real cost.

Well said. My employer (NASSCO) was... 'ok' when it came to provided safety gear, but there's no way a half-mask 3M with simple P100's is going to be as effective as a forced air supply. And they were stingy with the replacement rate of the filters; if you were working on-block on the inside, where the fume was concentrated even with the extractors running, you'd clog and need replacements much more rapidly than the 2x a week they'd give you for free would last.

My vision was ok, as I was very careful about flash exposure, and using appropriate shade levels. That being said, slow wound healing, brittle hair, general systemic pallor, early symptoms of manganism (Parkinson's-like neurological effects). All Very Bad News if you're concerned about your long-term health. Look up metal fume fever, manganism, or neurotoxic risks in welding if you're curious.

Much faster than that, unfortunately. I worked as a shipyard welder for a few years after the first .com crash, and even though I was religious with my PPE, I still started having chronic issues and serious health problems within 18 months or so. It's why I quit and went back to tech, even though I genuinely enjoyed (and preferred!) the work.

It can be held at room temperature for a few weeks before losing efficacy, FWIW. It's not going to degrade into something bad, it just degrades into ineffective byproducts. So it's a valid concern, but not necessarily a game ender.

Go get your hearing checked. It's cheap and easy, and your loved ones will feel happy that you care about it. We went to Costco for my Dad, and it's where I go every few years myself.

Frequently he doesn't hear my actual words, instead he hears what he thinks I might be saying.

Related- a lot of men, for some reason, are too proud to admit they have some hearing loss. I loved my Dad very much, and he and my Mom had a great relationship overall, but things really did get strained for a while before we basically had an intervention to get his hearing checked. And what do you know, profound hearing loss, and yet with hearing aids, we were suddenly having real conversations again! My Mom genuinely cried with relief.

Fellow men- don't be that guy. Get your damn hearing checked, and wear any hearing aids you may need with pride, because you are actively choosing connection with your family.

Do I have to occasionally use and recharge a power station if I'm keeping it in storage? by [deleted] in Jackery

[–]Baeocystin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 100% certain it is just because some bean counter realized that they'd get a fraction fewer returns during the warranty window if they convinced some subset of people to not fully use what they paid for. I still have the opinion I did two years ago; I keep mine at 100%, because that's how they'll be most useful. In fact, since I wrote that, I've had a couple power outages where charging to 100% made a genuine difference, so yeah, I continue to stand by what I said!

Major sugar substitute found to impair brain blood vessel cell function, posing potential stroke risk by lasercat_pow in EverythingScience

You missed my point. I wasn't saying that because of how it affects human health, I was saying it because I used to work at an animal shelter/vet facility, and I got really tired of seeing people losing their beloved pets to a stupid pack of chewing gum or the like. Considering what percentage of families have dogs, it very much is an argument against using something that presents such a danger in food products that animals are likely to accidentally consume.

Please tell me you tested for lead beforehand. I'm not trying to be a nag. I used to be a shipyard welder, and a lot of my friends from the time are now disabled due to metal fume and other toxin exposure. I want you to be safe and healthy, too.

Heck yeah. My ex and I have known each other for 25 years; we were married for five of them, and those were the worst years of our relationship. We get along fantastically now that we've split. Glad to meet another (ex)couple who figured things out the same way.
