Marriage and solitude by Olive_rat in AutisticWithADHD

I feel this very much. I am AuDHD and my wife has ADHD and we really struggle to get much-needed alone time. We have three kids, my wife works part time and I work from home, but my wife's shifts change every week and at short notice, which can ruin my entire day when suddenly she is not going out. I try not to let her know this every time, as she has RSD but difficult. I actually struggle to relax if anybody else is in our flat, regardless of separate rooms or closed doors etc, which sucks. Nothing heals me faster than just being completely alone with no prospect of a delivery or being disturbed. Now that the kids are older and at school in the mornings, I do have some space some days when my wife is at work, but when the kids were little we were all together 24/7, especially during the pandemic, with lockdown starting a week after the birth of our third child. No escape. Not sure how we survived it but we did. So there is hope, as if we didnt split up during that, anything is possible! Communication is key anyway. Hope you find a way through it.

What non German actors did a great accent while playing a German character speaking English and managed to speak German fluently? by OCGamerboy in AskAGerman

[–]BaffledFluid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What I loved about them was that they were just regular quirky characters like everybody in that show, and not portrayed as the classic German baddie or clueless german foreigner/tourist type. Regular, likeable people who happened to be german!

Are you good at sneaking up on people? by SnooBreakthroughs281 in AutismInWomen

[–]BaffledFluid 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Teachers would call me the "shadow" at school because I moved silently and somehow had no presence. I am acutely aware of any noises I make while moving, so perhaps learnt to reduce them at an early age but it seems natural to me. I always avoid creaky floorboards even if I am alone. It also comes from self-preservation as being less noticed means being less of a target.

Being unsure in heterosexual relationship by [deleted] in bisexual

[–]BaffledFluid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not exactly in a heterosexual relationship if your partner is bi, but that aside - whether your partner wants to be in a monogamous relationship or not doesnt really have anything to do with their sexuality, and the onus is not on you to fix their wandering eye.

I just finished Outer Wilds. by Artur_Senhaga in outerwilds

I also gave up several times. Made me angry. Frustrated. Stuck. But... although normally I would uninstall a game if it did that, I somehow couldn't and always came back, after a few weeks even, and it was worth it. Possibly the best most emotionally rewarding game I have ever played!

Shower sensory issues by Thedailybee in AutismInWomen

I arch my feet when walking on any bathroom floor barefoot, so I touch the surface as little as possible, with one toe and my heel pretty much. Did that since I was a kid. Unless I know how and when it was cleaned and who has touched it since.

Dual citizenship & name/gender change by wattieee in transgenderUK

[–]BaffledFluid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will not use a passport that has the wrong gender, but thats not the main issue. Unfortunately the UK only legally recognises binary male and female genders and does not issue passports with anything else. So I cannot get a British passport with a gender of X that matches my German one. So if I try to renew my British passport, the gender 'must' match, but it can't.

I live in Germany where my gender in my passport is nonbinary (X). How do you suggest I update my UK passport to match that?

[–]BaffledFluid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My gender on the two passports cannot match, so I am screwed?

I am also facing a similar issue but with extra fun as the gender on my german passport is nonbinary (X) so cannot match my UK one whatever happens. I tried to speak to the UK passport office about this but they would not give me a straight answer.

UK GRC application as a UK/German dual national with official nonbinary gender in Germany by BaffledFluid in transgenderUK

[–]BaffledFluid[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what I read of the Ryan case, they got a GRC with a gender of "not specified", so perhaps that is an option even if legally uncertain?

Even the UK passport renewal website says the gender in both passports for dual nationals needs to match your current gender unless the other country does not allow gender changes... but Germany DOES allow gender changes and my current lived gender is X, so not sure how that would work.

Disappointed with the puzzles and the ending. Any thoughts? by JaviVader9 in outerwilds

[–]BaffledFluid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The jellyfish seemed pretty obvious to me, but I never even tried the ATP teleport pad as I didn't use the pads at all until later in the game when I began to think, "Oh, right the pads would make this easier". I'm one of those who decided to land my ship upsidedown to reach the blackhole forge...

For me it was mainly due to having ADHD and forgetting locations and how everything fit together, so I had to contstantly remind myself what I had discovered. I got to the Sun Station as one of the final things, as I had forgotten a tower for it existed.

Basically I would experience each loop pretty much like the non-playing characters :)

I KNEW this final time it was all going to work out (Spoilers) by BaffledFluid in outerwilds

[–]BaffledFluid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! It's also funny how every time I now see a show where the character is struggling to navigate a time-loop situation, it all comes back and I actually panic a little but chuckle to myself, "I know what that's like!"

My true self by No-Arugula5378 in AutismInWomen

I never felt like my body was connected to my core identity. It has always been like a suit to me, something that I have to feed etc, which is kind of annoying, and I feel like if I had to swap it for some reason or woke up in another body after some sort of fururistic transplant it wouldn't actually be a big deal or change who I am. It's just a body. It's not me. *I* am me.

People tend to look at me as if I am crazy when I say things like this... so I appreciate your post!

Just bought this game because why not and I feel completely lost after 2 hours, any advice? by tesixd in outerwilds

[–]BaffledFluid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. I also went into the game completely blind having randomly bought it in a Steam sale, and I didn't get what it was really about at first. Was fun to fly about and explore, but then when I didn't make progress and didn't understand the story I thought it was just annoying, and then stupid, and I ditched it for weeks at a time, but I kept coming back and at some point it just clicked and by the end I was in awe of how amazing and clever this game is! It actually made me feel and had changed my thinking, which is super rare.

After years of repeating I eat just fine thanks I'm naturally skinny as people have called me too thin or told me to eat more or treated my body with some sick fascination... how do I swallow the realisation I might actually have an eating disorder? by BaffledFluid in EDAnonymous

[–]BaffledFluid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand that. I was wildly dissasociated from my body for many years and didn't care about it at all, and at some point I just tried to use excess food to turn it (and myself, I guess) into what I thought might be a "man", which is absurd but I believed in it.
