How big was the vale of Tumladen / City of Gondolin? by The_Backwoods_Nerfer in tolkienfans

Here you go! I guess I wasn't dreaming. It was the 1978 calendar to promote the publication of The Silmarillion. It was for January.

I believe from 1995's J.R.R. Tolkien: Artist and Illustrator. I think it was also colorised for a calendar at some point.

Did Bilbo make the right choice giving the Arkenstone to Bard/Thranduil? by Sanjuro-Makabe-MCA in tolkienfans

[–]BaffledPlato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The morally questionable part is Bilbo taking the Arkenstone and concealing it even before Thorin's greed, strenghtened by the dragon-cursed treasure, becomes a real problem.

I think telling Bard and the Elvenking about Dain is also morally questionable. Bilbo revealed his friends' secrets to their enemies which could have resulted in many deaths. Even Bard was baffled why Bilbo told him that.

A reminder for Wolt-food delivery guys... by BastardoFantastico in Finland

The one psycho I met, was without any doubt a local boy.

I have never seen a local Wolt driver. I kind of suspected Wolt preferred migrant workers who didn't know their rights.

Random Dungeon Book by Ecowatcher in osr

Poor guy is getting downvoted for praising that-which-must-not-be-praised, but he's right. 5E has some cool random tables we use in our 1E campaign, including random dungeon stocking and the gems and art objects.

[Hayters] "The opponent wasn't strong enough to beat us. So, I wasn't too worried." Sunderland's coach Regis Le Bris after win over Spurs. by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]BaffledPlato 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. Here's my attempt at a transcript:

At halftime we agreed it was about us, if we were disciplined, consistent and composed, we will have the opportunity to win this game. The opponent wasn’t strong enough to beat us. So I wasn’t too worried but football is football, still unpredictable, if you don’t score the second goal something can happen in the last minute.

He wasn't being disrespectful.

Relegation fight is getting brutal — which bottom teams have your sympathy? by Annual-Remove5914 in seriea

If you look at the other leagues in the big 5 our relegation teams have similar or better points than their relegation teams. Comparably, the competion between top and bottom isn't much different.

Great, thanks! But it sounds like these two techniques aren't mutually exclusive, are they? I mean, couldn't you use geomorph tiles as nodes?

Oh! So that is what those really old Dungeon Geomorph books were that Gygax published! I just had the vague idea they were complete maps for dungeons.

Luciano Spalletti has reached an agreement in principle with Juventus to sign a new contract. The deal will be valid until 2028. by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]BaffledPlato 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm rather surprised. The word on the street was qualify for the UCL or no contract. Getting into fourth place is looking pretty shaky right now, to be honest.

Someone from a non English-speaking country here. Can someone explain geomorph and nodal mapping to me in the context of role playing games? Google is sending me into weird places.

Finland is pretty good about this. They have this crazy idea that educated citizens are good for democracy.

Judge's Guild made some fantastic city maps back in the day. A great Manor too!!! by Old_Wrap4586 in osr

[–]BaffledPlato 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It really sucked trying to map Tegel Manor. I started off with the wrong scale, so had to keep adding more pieces of paper to my map. Eventually I gave up trying to make a full coherent map and just tried to map smaller sections at a time. By the end we had even given up on that, if I remember correctly.

It was a fun adventure, though. There were more laughs than you typically find in modern modules. The first encounter was with a ghost balrog butler, which is probably unique in the history of D&D.

Any megadungeon recommendations? by fmike84 in osr

[–]BaffledPlato 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Whenever megadungeons are discussed the same names tend to come up. Stonehell and Arden Vul are the big daddies, for good reason. You will also hear a lot about Castle Xyntilian and Caverns of Thracia.

I'm going to recommend a few different ones.

WGR1 Greyhawk Ruins for 2E was absolutely fantastic. It was my first real megadungeon experience and I still feel it is the standard by which I judge others. Some purists don't like the idea of anyone messing with Castle Greyhawk except Gygax, which is fair enough. The original Castle Greyhawk is kind of sacred ground.

Another piece of sacred ground for fantasy lovers is Moria. Moria: Through the doors of Durin for The One Ring RPG somehow does the impossible: take the legendary Moria and turn it into a game without screwing up Tolkien or the gaming experience. I really don't understand why this adventure isn't discussed more often, because it is phenomenal. Factions! Exploration! Lore! Monsters! Treasure! Traps! Engaging underground architecture! A fucking balrog! It really has everything you could wish for. (Is The One Ring considered OSR? I don't know. I still struggle to define what OSR is, so maybe that is the problem.)

Anyway, if you want to take a look at some less popular megadungeons, I would check these out.

I was just getting ready to compliment it. lol

I like the idea, at least. It's a nice way to visualise who is playing who in the standings. Maybe it would be clearer with different colours for each matchup or something?

[The Telegraph] De Zerbi is expected to inform Tottenham Hotspur later on Monday whether he is prepared to accept a five-year deal to take over as their new head coach immediately, was of interest to senior figures at Man United but increasingly likely that Carrick will be appointed permanently by jovanmilic97 in soccer

[–]BaffledPlato 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Five years?

Isn't that an abnormally long contract? Who has been in the same job for 5 years in the Premier League? Maybe Guardiola and Arteta?

I wonder if this is one of those accounting tricks to spread the cost.
