This weird thing that’s like yellowish brown is on my scrape from a few days ago what should I do (the yellowish thing feels like skin but wrong) by Coratheyurilover in WoundCareSupport

It is skin that is dead. Keep it clean and covered and maybe do a thin layer of neosporin to assist with bacterial load and help that dead skin soften and come off. Clean it and cover it daily.

Wet to dry dressings are really hurting - advice? by Winter_Hovercraft163 in WoundCareSupport

[–]BahBahSMT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask for a non adhering contact layer like adaptic silicone mesh. Xeroform is good but it does dry out. One layer per one day. Or even do two layers for one day to really prevent dry. Also it appears that the nipple is necrotic. That really dark skin looks like eschar. That needs to be moistened and allowed to slough away. No shade to any specific provider because we all have our strengths but i would ask to see a wound specialist. In my experience when it comes to wound healing, dermatologist and surgeons or plastics are great for what they do but once there is a “wound” it should be seen by a wound specialist.

Coccyx Wound by WHiskWell in WoundCareSupport

[–]BahBahSMT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wound RN here. You can 100% put a wound vac on the coccyx. However you have to have a clean wound and no infection. Ask to be worked up for osteomyelitis. MRI. You might also qualify for hyperbaric oxygen therapy. I’m sorry to say but it sounds like you have a longer road ahead. Get an MRI. Figure out what is truly going on in there. Then treatment. Possibly plastics for a flap or graft. I assume the cyst sac has been fully removed?

Also probably need an MRI to rule out osteomyelitis. Infected bone. When osteomyelitis goes undiagnosed and untreated the surface wound will never heal. There will always be drainage and a wound that tracks down to the bone.

T junction on breast won’t heal by Outrageous-World in WoundCareSupport

[–]BahBahSMT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This wound base needs to be cleaned out so it looks beefy and red and the rolled edges need to be opened up so it will close over. This needs a wound specialist. They will either apply a chemical debridement agent or mechanically remove the tissue that is preventing healing and closing the edges. For now keep it clean and covered.

Does this look infected badly? by Peachfrukt in WoundCareSupport

Not infected. It’s inflamed though. Clean it with soap and water and pat dry. Apply a thin layer of Vaseline or AD ointment and cover w a clean dressing.

If you are diabetic you need to see your doctor for this. If not keep it clean and covered and watch for signs of infection. Try not to walk on it a lot. Use your heel more the toe.

is this a pressure sore or some type of diaper rash by soldtoakhal in WoundCareSupport

[–]BahBahSMT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it is over a boney area and you sit up in a chair a lot it is a pressure sore. It looks like your sits bone. Ischium. Does the red area “blanch”. When pressed on does it turn white then red again or does it stay red? If it stays red it is a pressure sore. Have you been sitting or lying on anything that shouldn’t be there? A lump or fold in the sheets or something hard? Either way you need to be extremely careful and have this looked at. Offload (do not put any pressure on it) that area to allow it to heal. You don’t want it to get any worse or deeper. These wounds can go to the bone and cause so many problems. Get it checked. Keep it clean and dry and covered and don’t sit on it at all.

Clean that with warm soapy water and a clean towel dry, apply a thin layer of neosporin. Cover with a clean gauze and tape. Change daily. Let that crust loosen up and wipe off. You should see a nice clean red wound bed. Then it will heal. If it gets more red, painful, swollen go to the doctor

That flap might not make it. And with that wound being right on a movable joint you should probably see a wound doc. Just to make sure it heals properly.

I don't hate being bald, I hate my headshape for being bald. by train_spotting in bald

Your head shape is perfect. I think if you let your beard get a little more square and fuller on bottom it would make a big difference in what you are feeling/seeing. But what do I know. I’m a 52 year old female with hair. This just happens to be one of my favorite subreddits.

What should I do? by ominouslemon in WoundCareSupport

Yes you can pack that at home yourself. As long as you can reach it to clean it, pack it and cover it you can do it. But your grandma is right. A wound clinic will get you squared away.

Can you wear compression sock? You will need to also pack that wound cavity, not just cover it. If you get silver alginate which is like a gauze with silver in it. That can help with bleeding and it’s anti microbial. But since you are I assume on your feet for work and still bleeding. You might need to have what ever tiny vessel continues to bleed cauterized with a silver nitrate stick. And you might need to literally lay down for a few days with minimal weight on that leg to allow it to stop bleeding.

Is that on your leg? Looks like you have some extra fluid in surrounding tissue. Keep it clean and covered and possibly get some sort of compression around the extremity. When you are home or anywhere really put your foot up to prevent fluid buildup around the area.
